[Sept 18] Player-player Trading

My vote would to be able to trade and do a lot of the "maintenance" on website AND in game. Maintenance being trading, selling, buying, moving around inventory and stash.

That being said. I would like to see a more efficient way of trading, be it dropping or clicking on a character and trading like you would the NPCs. At least be able to trade in the safe haven of an encampment. It is a little difficult at times when there are monsters chasing you while you are making a trade.

Also the trade for NPCs seems to be terribly unfair. Hopefully there will be a bigger reward for selling a rare item with extra orbs put in it then there would be for something without magic or something like that.

I also noticed to be some sort of trading chart of sorts. Is this open to public or something we have to learn for ourselves.

For example I sold 6 wands and a gem, and instead of receiving orb fragments and such. I received a wand in return. That would be amazing to have that kind of trade, to sell a bunch of crappy weapons for one semi good weapon in return. Although this case was just the same weapon pretty much.

I appreciate all the time and effort everyone is putting into this so I have a feeling these things may have been thought of.

Also is there a way to see the value of currency? This seems like a hybrid of barter system and monetary but it would be nice to know the value of your items.

This game is amazing, I can't wait to see the final product. It has sooo much potential.

Any chance we can get an update on how this feature is progressing? I'd really like to partake in some trading... but the horrors of drop trading from d1 still haunt me.
I like the feature on the website at the moment where I can click on a character portrait and it pulls my items up for me to see.

I also like the fact the game runs alongside a regular browser.

However I dont think much of the idea of switching from one screen to another just to trade. It seems a little time consuming and bit much of an effort. It also pulls a player away from the game.

I would like to see some kind of Auction House feature added.

Perhaps, ingame you can ADD items to the Auction House and from the website you can BUY items.

Having both players jump out of the game to the website would be annoying. But buying from a website would be fine.
I find the current "method" of trading really fun and interesting. People put stuff down a fair distance from each other then run to collect the other person's item. If that person doesn't drop anything, you can pick your stuff up quickly before they grab it. You can't take the other person's item and take your own stuff.

I'm surprised this method hasn't been used in some other "hardcore" games before. It seems to be actually harder to exploit than some other more "direct" trading methods (like a trade window).

Anyway, I'd advise you to put in multiple trading options for players. In-game, out-game, and perhaps you could offer a service to globally advertise a player's goods (using an item you can purchase with cashshop points).

I think we (closed beta testers) are already used to the perils of trading like this. Open beta people might not be.
So, don't waste dev. time by implementing something temporary for Closed, try and finish the final version before Open.

I think the point of the temporary solution at this stage is that the final implementation won't be ready by open beta.

Well the way i picture the final p2p trading in my mind
is a vendor style system where each player get a single stash page where he/she may place items that other players my browse, when adding an item the player my set a price on the item (so that the item can be bought instantly)
or set it to "make an offer", the player can then accept/refuse trade offers at a later date.
i imagine that the forum side of the p2p trading with have far more functions in regards to item searches and trade offers/requests.

it will be interesting to see how far off i am..
Dont waste your time, and work on the final version!!!!!!!
An immense river of oblivion is sweeping us away into a nameless abyss.

We have large trade-system plans that are underway. Although we haven't discussed the specifics publicly yet, we've mentioned that it's integrated with the website. Our plan is that people can trade items without having to load the game client (good luck getting any work or study done now!)

Because this feature is taking a while, we may consider implementing a simple player-player trade within an instance as an interim measure (but this would be wasted development time as it'd be replaced by the proper system when that is ready).

Edit (May 21): This information still represents our view of this issue. The simpler trade screen is coming soon as a stopgap measure.

Hmm..
Even though a more complex trade-system than the simple player-player trade is going to be implemented it looks like that there might not be an extension of this system ingame thus we will have to alt-tab out of the game.
Not the best scenario imo since it takes away from the great immersion of the game.

I respect that GGG doesn't want to have a system which involves buyouts and i'm personaly fine with that.
I'm fine with even a simple public stash purchasable by the shop that can be viewed by the players.

But i don't like the idea of this system forcing us to leave the game to trade.
It will be better imo if it is both accessible in and out of the game so that all people are happy.

I would personally love to hang around those beautiful and immersive ingame camps/towns listening to the game’s music while using the same tools and doing the same thing that some people will be doing in an ugly browser environment.

I hope that GGG will make the right decision and that they wont be affected by the people who metaphorically "throw torches" in any ingame trading tool idea while yelling "burn the witch!".

I really want to know if there are any plans of that feature being available ingame and if not why did they take the decision to force as to get out of the game to trade for ingame items.

Is this in an effort to differentiate from the D3 ingame AH failure?

A secure trading window is a must. Also, it should be allowed to be done in town. I like the idea of not dropping stuff in town, people would just see how much they could drop to lag everyone out. But using a trade-window in town, that should be a no-brainer. Besides, if you can't drop in town, then exploits like we have seen in other games, where one cancels the trade and items fall to the ground, can't happen.

As for an Auction House, that would require some kind of common currency (which we don't really have in this game atm).
