1) There are no gear-independent builds. Every build favours/requires some specific gear.
2) Summoners are (or used to be before the zombie gem got buffed) a bit difficult to level; should be ok with a lvl16 zombie in a +2minion helmet.
3) With lvl 54 either stick to summoner (you have leveled gems) or start something new from lvl1 (as you lack the leveled gems for other builds).
4) Wrong thread. When looking for help post in the forum.
