My problem with poe.xyz and why do I think it fucked the economy

Which brings us back to the point of POE now being a MMOSMS - Massively Multiplayer Online Stock Market Simulator.

Which makes me like XYZ so much - because it allows me to spend LESS of my time trying to purchase even a simple, minor upgrade. I'm trying to play this MMOSMS like an ARPG, tough as it may be, because the character-building aspect of this game is actually quite fun.
You're trying to have your cake and eat it, too. First you say you don't want a stock market, then you say you like the leading stock market site because it makes trading shares so convenient.

Trading should be more difficult. There are two ways to increase difficulty: erecting arbitrary barriers no one can do anything about (the Bad Way) and by creating challenges which can be defeated through skill (the Good Way). In terms of general difficulty in PoE, desync is an example of the Bad Way, while the Nemesis mods (in general) are an example of the Good Way (or at least an attempt at it). In trading, the key skill is item evaluation, that is, knowing how much an item is worth. Therefore, the correct components of the game to attack are the components which make item evaluation easy; afterwards, item evaluation should be more difficult.

Let me make something clear: increasing the skill check on profitable trading would make it so the bottom half of players, in terms of item evaluation skill, would routinely trade at a significant loss, while those with more skill would profit off of their mistakes. This is as it should be; the concept of "trading for everyone" is a broken concept. It's better for item flipping to be a specialty — practiced by the few who enjoy it for its own sake — than to have everyone partaking in it.

Out of these components, a lot of it is item affix balance: it's too easy to just look at a rare (or unique) and tell whether it's good or not relative to a similar item. But poe.xys is also a culprit, and should be stopped.

... This is the best way to buy and sell items at the moment but a tool of market manipulation too... Look for example what happened to thief torment ring...from 3-4 EX decent rolls to 7-10 EX and more....

Why I think that ?

The b/o prices for some items are just the prices that THOSE items don`t SELL FOR and people still believe that those are the fair prices for the items. The REAL PRICE of items is the price that the BUYER IS WILLING TO PAY !

How to manipulate market using poe.xyz ?

Say to your friends/Guild( meaning that you have a lot of friends/guildies playing poe.xyz) with soul takers that they use and don`t want to sell to post them on poe.xyz for 80 EX.Wait one month , meanwhile the rest sells for 40-50 ...
Some noob drops a Soul taker , checks poe.xyz ... "Oh wow , I`ll get 80 EX for this , better post it " ... he posts it lets say at 70 EX...the next noobs sees this...Same thing happens.

This is how you use poe.xyz for market manipulation.

I hope with the next big patch GGG will introduce a new system.

Your argument is invalid :)
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.

XYZ is the only thing that makes sense in this trading game.

Apart from facilitating trade and the obvious benefit of player retention this brings, XYZ does a wonderfull job at stabilizing item prices. Sellers cannot severely overprice their items, because of XYZ buyout listings.

This helps fighting cartel mentality. It helps noobs not being scammed by profiteers. Trade transparency XYZ brings is good for legit traders and only bad for scammers & other shady people that want to rip you off. It's a global economy and item value is defined by droprate (=availability) and other global factors (like build efficiency or popularity). Therefore it makes sense to have a global overview on the market, through the service XYZ provides.

have you guys every considered that the demand for many items are almost perfectly inelastic to changes in price?

How to not be manipulated:

Don't pay more than you think something is worth.

^So true...but damn...noobs everywhere overpaying and people saw that profiting from noobs is a good deal...so this happens now...
the only way a "noob" would have that amount of currency to buy items that high priced is from using RMT currency, and thats where all the problems are, not POE.XYZ.
Despite what insane people might say, if trading is easier, prices GO DOWN. How is this even a thing? Trading is easier, more people trade, more product, more competition, etc, etc...prices normalize, etc. Just look at D3 for proof. Had the easiest trading ever, and eventually prices were so low that you could triple your dps upon hitting level 60 immediately for under 100k gold.

Irrelevant, because his point is valid.

Transparency + ease of use = competition ==> low & stable prices

Obfuscated trading + difficulty to use = monopoly & cartel manipulation ==> high prices
