My problem with poe.xyz and why do I think it fucked the economy

Single items can be manipulated in the short run, only that. Overall price level cannot be inflated this way, if items were more expensive overall than they were worth, it would mean people couldn't buy as many as they should according to supply/demand, which means the supply would rise until eventually pushing down prices.
This.

I entered this topic with high hopes: poe.xyz did accelerate the fucking of the economy. However, the method of fucking has nothing whatsoever to do with the OP's complaint. The problem is not the price of [insert item here], it's how ridiculously easy it is to look it up. Searchable buyouts are a cheat code for item valuation, making what should be a difficult minigame — item appraisal — into something where you just Google the answers. When it's so simple to be a savvy trader, it should come as no surprise to anyone when trading overtakes farming as the means of wealth acquisition for the typical player. PoE would be a better game if knowing what your items were worth required actual expertise.

That said, xyz's site was inevitable — if xyz didn't make it, someone else would. Since third-party search engines are inevitable, the best way to avoid searchable buyouts is to

However, in order to pull that off, you need to establish some fairly elaborate in-game trading systems instead of relying on text-based forums and chat... which brings us back to morbo's point regarding no real trading systems being in place.

Dont want to off this thread but I got 1 tiny question: can poexyz index mirrored copies of items? Im trying to buy a a mirrored dagger but none of them shows up except the originals ones. They would show in poexplorer but that site is down like all the time....

Price would have gone up even without xyz.

Because this game requires stupid amount of wealth to get anything done, to craft a rare, to craft a 6L and so on, because it's a trading simulator first and everything else later = easier to get currency you need by trade. You get rich quickest by farming in Lioneye's Watch and not in Sceptre of God or lvl 78 map. Game simply promotes scammers and overpricing.

The highest b/o listed in xyz is the lowest price an item DOESN'T sell for. It has little to do with the actual value.

I have no ideea what I read...

It makes perfect sense, try reading it again whilst using your brain.

Thats because the drop rate isnt adjusted to take into account the rmt and mass farming of orbs. If it did, everyone had a chance to craft something nice and either use it or sell it. Who cares if it costs 10 ex or 100? As long as the crafting part of the game is fun. I actually came for the crafting and stayed for making new builds and chars.

Before claiming poe.xyz fvked the economah, consider that without that site service nobody would actually trade in this game, because the game has no trading tools outside the horrid chatspam.

And while GGG is "making improvements to trade" (for a year+ now), poe.xyz is keeping people playing Path of Exile, else the playerbase would be maybe half of what it is now, because everybody would quit over the impossibility to trade...

GGG should buy a supporter pack for poe.xyz

THIS is sad BUT true

Why blame poe.xyz for your "perceived" notion about the economy? Like you said it is just a tool. You even pointed out that the economy is driven by the buyers. This to me looks like any normal market that is driven by buyers (as opposed to a supplier's market). If there's a buyer willing to pay at higher prices, don't blame poe.xyz, blame the scarcity involved. You want prices to fall? Have the devs revamp drop rates so that the market is driven by supply instead.

Which brings us back to the point of POE now being a MMOSMS - Massively Multiplayer Online Stock Market Simulator.

Which makes me like XYZ so much - because it allows me to spend LESS of my time trying to purchase even a simple, minor upgrade. I'm trying to play this MMOSMS like an ARPG, tough as it may be, because the character-building aspect of this game is actually quite fun.
