So frustrating that the same mistake is repeated in every D2 clone

Or maybe they're just too stupid to actually learn the game and it's intricacies? Ever thought about that?

My friend's a sysadmin for a large ecommerce retailer, he's played various games at high competitive levels. He quit because of the itemisation.

Resorting to attacks against people is really not helping this conversation.

People need to start understanding the difference between stating a fact and/or questioning it, and insulting.
Although, usually when people resort to the "you insult me i wont talk to u enimoor!!" -side, they know they are already wrong and they can not win the argument with logic anymore.

You friend quit because of the itemization? Maybe your friend didn't understand the itemization. Why I say this? Because watched objectively behing any lense possible, the itemization in PoE is by far the deepest, most cleverly designed, mathematically most balanced itemization any game EVER has had a pleasure of having.
That makes me think your friend just doesn't understand it enough to enjoy it. As is the case with 80% of forumwhiners here.

There's logic and then there's stating bullshit and pretending you know what you're talking about. I know my friends, you do not.

He understood it just fine, he was running maps with some other friends and got bored because he had to sink hours every day into the game to get anything approaching good gear. It wasn't fun.

It doesn't matter how deep, clever and balanced the itemisation is if it's not fun. The reality is, a lot of people are not enjoying it, and quit as a result.

While a lot of people are enjoying it, including me.

And if one sinks hours and hours of gameplay, and there's no getting anything out of it - means the person is doing something VERY wrong. Thus problem is in the player, not the game. If you don't understand how to progress in terms of gear, content, wealth - it's on to you, not the game.

Okay riddle me this if X player spends 24/7 on the game and still not getting shit with a huge amount of mf with twin
and a flask mf with a total amount of mf 433 66

Doing Dominus hours and hours a day and a couple of maps
Once in a blue moon something good shows up then another streak of bad luck despite having god tier mf.

MF even diminishes as well so that doesn't exactly help.

Effort doesn't seem to have much contribution It's just pure RNG waiting to give you pity.

QFT :).

And this is the true issue, the itemization is perfect, most people agree on that. But what happens when in theory it is perfect, but in reality you find one good item once the right stars align.

The fact is items don't scale with the level of your character. And as a result it becomes incredible stupid to grind if you so desire.

Nobody will question the fact that you can complete the current game with only blue items, but is it a "fun" experience in doing so?

will this experience promote replay?

(for me personally, it is fun to slow-play the game and do it with the least gear possible, because i don't find PoE challenging at all if i just play "normal", but i can imagine it is very frustrating for people that are forced into this playstyle, because it is extremely punishing on gaming experience)

The fact is, only "end-game" should provide a grind, the hunt for BiS gear should be a grind. The hunt to make your character "perfect" should be a grind. A normal "fun" content play true should not be a grind, it should be fun.

And don't come with that stupid "you want every BiS piece in 1 week playtime" qq bullshit. Having a "fun" experience has nothing to do with "BiS" gear. It is about the experience one perceives while playing the game. Which atm is flawed, due to act3x imbalance and bad item progression at early stages of the game.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
What I still think is the biggest communication hurdle here is the common expectation formulated as :

Good game = played by masses

Well this is NOT a game meant to be played by masses in the first place, this is NOT a game meant to be loved by everybody. Maybe it is a weird perspective, but I think it is important.

If it does not suit your taste or taste of your friends, then switch to something closer to your expectations. But in trying to suit everyone's needs died a substantial amount of virtual worlds before. Do not push GGG to try to make their game appealing to everybody as that is impossible and eventually it kills it for everyone.
I get ton's of uniques every day. And who really cares necessarily about uniques... there are other valuable things you can find in this game. Maybe this type of game isn't for you. You should try D3. I hear they need more players
D3 sucks

Do you really think the game in it's current state is utterly perfect and no improvements can be made?

I work in ecommerce, and comments like that are so utterly wrong it boggles the mind.

If people don't understand the game, it's up to GGG to make sure they do. At my previous job, we frequently ran usability and A/B tests to ensure that all aspects of our sites worked as we intended them to. When we noticed issues, such as people not understanding something, we worked to change it.

We made a lot more money as a result. Even simple things like changing the colour of a CTA so that the user journey is more immediately obvious result in a revenue uplift.

I had an interview at Wooga a couple years ago, they're a company that specialises in social and mobile gaming. They do a lot of A/B testing, and they make a lot of money as a result.

This game is far from perfect and attitudes like yours are incredibly harmful to GGG's long-term success.
