Get rid of 1 Week Races
" I dont share you opinion until you can prove it. I´ve at least played 50 hours nonstop once (at the age of 15 or something). Then it was not funny anymore, but i was far far away from dying. Last edited by jaankoo#1089 on Jan 21, 2013, 9:02:47 AM

I was being sarcastic. Nothing will happen to you if you game for 72 or even 90 hours unless you have serious health problems in which case you shouldn't be gaming for 3 days straight anyway.

Let me solve this problem. 1 week races would last for a whole week but you can only spend x hours in game playing in the race. This would encourage players to take their time, think about how they are gonna manage their schedules and also would make the whole race more skill based and strategically more competitive. Also, these races are called hardcore for a reason, with this time limit rule even if you die and have a whole group of friends who could boost you up to their level again you wouldn't be able to win or get to top X or w/e. IMO this would make the whole long term races more competetive and skill based and that's what I'm all about and a lot of other people I'm pretty sure.
I have not participated in any week long races, so it is not a whining on my side. I'm all about 100% fairness and competitive games. But current rules seem to cater to people who have less friends, less life, no job, etc. I'm all about fairness and competitiveness but the way this works now just doesn't seem like anything that requires skill or time management or competetive mindset. Currently it is all about whoever can have a whole week off work/school/family/friends/etc. (also map drops I know but let's not take that into accout here) I won't participate in any kind of races that last more than let's say 12 hours straight if there isn't any time limit in them, which - let me say again - would just make the race more skill based and competetive and also would the "HARDCORE race" term have more meaning. edit: reading through some of the comments... I'm not saying they should delete these 1 week races but make another kind of 1 week race with in-game time limit too. With this rule there won't be any sharing, cheating, whatsoever... basically nothing to cry about, just skill based games which you can train for in default ladder too managing your time etc... That's all I wanted to say. Last edited by attiGT#7833 on Jan 21, 2013, 9:27:43 AM

" The questions are: *is a one-week-race intended to be played for up to full 168 hours of time? and *can it be prevented from poeple doing this to gain advantage against others that dont can/want to sacrifice that much time, can it be prevented without any restriction affecting even these people's choice of play? (like: possible to move a daily 'timeframe' to another day if you missed it on that day? or: do a long session on weekend instead of multiple short sessions over the week?) To me it seems there will always be a drawback on regulary players if you try to set a limit on playtime - limiting the general playtime per char (or even per account, at least as long you dont deny trading/partying) is no exception therein. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

(No playing for 70 hours at a time is a death sentence. You can't survive. Its not like soldiers constantly stay up for 3-4 days at a time.)
I hate to say this but I do it all the time.. As long as you make sure to drink water and eat and take small 5 minute breaks you usually wont have a problem. Hell My normal schedule is about 30 hours awake and 7 hours sleeping. |

I really have to wonder what kind of mindset all these people have when they demand that they should be on equal playing grounds while putting in less effort, and less work.
There are PLENTY of shorter races to take part in if one week is too big of a race for you. Not only that but you don't have to always go completely all out to place well... you just have to play efficiently. Even Simon died like half way through the race and still made it back up and beat 99% of the people racing in much much less time. This just sounds childish to put restrictions on how much time other people play games or how they want to spend their time in-game. It's one of the reasons people disliked D3 so much. PoE is supposed to be about freedom of choice. Come on people, be more open-minded please lol. |

I have to fully agree, they are dangerous and i am specialy afraid for @Kripparian, because i don't want to see him get hurt by this 1 week races in a long term.
Short ones like 1 hour or so are fun and i like the 1 month idea, because you could take time to play normally without being stressed and could do other important things. 1 month would eventually be won by players, who were lucky from the item and map rng. I do not mind week long races. I was in this one but only could spend a few hours in it (kids, wife, etc). I'd like to see most races be short hour or two because most if not all players could compete.

READ CAREFULLY. Even @Nugiyen admitted, this was too much to handle.
