Once you make a law or a rule you are trying to prevent behaviour. Doesn't mean you can stop people from doing this or that, or even bypassing the system.
At the current state of the game, our 1 week races are encouraging unhealthy behaviour.
P.S.: Casuals shouldnt even enter this thread, in my opnion.

Seriously, people complaining about getting rid of races just because you suck at them or you don't want someone to die?
I'm pretty sure 99% of the people who do the marathon runs for the week+ races are adults and have done it before.. saying its going to kill you staying up?
What a bloody joke, what the f!@# is this community turning into, a bunch of concerned stay-at-home mums?
Are you guys forgetting that ARPGS are ment to be played this way! endless nights without sleep and trying to progress as fast as you can!

" endless nights without sleep and trying to progress as fast as you can" isn't "how ARPGS are meant to be played" in some people's opinions - it's a sign of fairly severe illness. Think of gaming like alcohol, in that it's a fun pastime with some negative health affects. The makers of Bacardi don't advertise to people that they should spend 18 hour stretches drinking rum - and it would be really irresponsible to encourage anyone to sit in a chair and play a game for that long. Also, keep in mind that not everyone playing this *is* and adult, there are plenty of teens as well.

Telling adults they can't stay up and play if they want to is pretty rich. Might as well go play Hello Kitty Online
It's not a matter of it being an "adult" or not. Google gaming deaths, in the last few years there are numerous cases where some gamer, adult or teenager both, have died because they went like 40+ hours without sleep and just constant gaming. At that point it's not a matter of "hey im an adult im gonna play dem gaimz for three days straight" as it becomes a matter of you risk killing yourself.
Plus, not everyone can "devote" playing 30+ hours in one stretch, in a race. It differs from the "marathon" example people like to point out, because in a marathon you sign up for it, and you all participate at the same time. A runner in a marathon doesn't worry about potentially not winning because he or she has to suddenly take a break from running to go work their 8 hour shift at their job, or go to class. The same should be for races, just because someone who has tons of free time shouldn't get a leg up compared to those that work, or have school.
At some point you have to think about Darwin and natural selection.

You mean those people paying for the game since they have a job?

Threads like these make me sad to be human. I feel sad to think that some of the people who post here might actually be like this in real life. Anyways, they should lock this thread.

There is soo much wrong with your post idk where to even begin. Firstly who are you to tell anyone eles how they play an ARPG? Some of my fav D2 memories is during ladder reset and staying up late with friends.Your rele trying to compare gaming 18 hours to drinking Bacardi for 18 hours? I'm not even gonna comment on that. Ohh and lets not blame the parents for letting there "teens" stay up for days, lets blame the game... Yea real smart...

A 'casual' race with a 6 hour daily playtime limit would do nothing to help casual players. Instead we would see the best hardcore racers play on three to four different accounts, using the first two to three to farm maps and currency to trade over to the last in order to give it an advantage on the later days of the race.
In the end, these players would still be putting in 18 to 24 hours a day to win, only they would be using three to four accounts instead of one.
Not if those 6 hours per day races were solo races.
I would love one of those, since I surely don't have enough time for a full week.
Also I should mention that those and real one week races never would have to be mutually exclusive, they could even be held at the same time.
GGG plans to automate races to a point where they don't actually have to be run by a person, so that they can have many many many many many MANY races. And many at the same time.
I'm sure we'll soon get used to daily 1-3 hours races, constant monthly and weekly standard ladders + races with very special rules like cutthroat, blood magic for all or burning ground. Basically any mod that you know from maps.

I vote against removing any race format. Why? Because I'm against removing choices for people.
I am, however, all for having several formats, though. And so far GGG has been great at doing that. That way people with busy lives can still participate in various races. If you don't like one week races don't participate in them. Just go participate in other formats like the 3 hour races.
It would be nice if GGG could nab account sharers but even if they can't I think one week races should be left as an option for racing.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or a troll. Replying to JUST the title of this thread I have already posted the following.

TL;DR
Don't know if anyone said this and if someone did I don't know why there is even a discussion anymore. But, I'm pretty sure the dev team said they want multiple races going on at the same times so you could have a one week race while still having multiple shorter racing going on at the same time. If you dont like long races dont do them. Now there is no problem, no QQing. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct.
I don't understand why that didnt stop the argument. If you are arguing because you can't play enough to win a one week race then DONT PARTICIPATE! Now, if the argument was ONLY because of concerns of players health, come on folks.. There are many more ways to bring yourself to death than stay awake too long.
Then I posted the following and it was quoted a few times.
"
I cant believe this thread is still going on...
No constructive feedback has been given.
Why is this thread still going on?
PS, yes for whatever reason this particular QQ threads really get to me.
