Get rid of 1 Week Races

Telling adults they can't stay up and play if they want to is pretty rich. Might as well go play Hello Kitty Online

It's not a matter of it being an "adult" or not. Google gaming deaths, in the last few years there are numerous cases where some gamer, adult or teenager both, have died because they went like 40+ hours without sleep and just constant gaming. At that point it's not a matter of "hey im an adult im gonna play dem gaimz for three days straight" as it becomes a matter of you risk killing yourself.

Plus, not everyone can "devote" playing 30+ hours in one stretch, in a race. It differs from the "marathon" example people like to point out, because in a marathon you sign up for it, and you all participate at the same time. A runner in a marathon doesn't worry about potentially not winning because he or she has to suddenly take a break from running to go work their 8 hour shift at their job, or go to class. The same should be for races, just because someone who has tons of free time shouldn't get a leg up compared to those that work, or have school.

and just because you lack the free time to compete in every race doesn't mean we should just get rid of them. There are short races and long ones. Everyone has a chance to compete there's no issue here at all. Also its not GGGs responsibility to play mom to their customers and tell them when to go to bed they can set races for as short or as long as they would like.

Do the races you can do. If you have a life and can't devote 5 out of 7 days to playing the game, just be happy that you have other things in your life that require your time.

This, 1000x this.
Then have a race then based on /played time.
ie. You have 1 month of real time to complete 1 week of /played to see how far you can get.

That way the good players with other commitments can still win because they can play in their own time.
Trapperkeeper put it well.

I couldn't agree more.

Don't understand this new way of thinking when it comes to games and gamers nowdays. Seems to be some attitude of "Even if I play only 1/10th of someone else I should be able to compete with them, they shouldn't have wastly superior gear then me, in an mmorpg I should be able to see all the end game raid content they do" etc.

With the risk of sounding like some grumpy old geezer, us older gamers, 30+ in my case, didn't grew up with this sense of entitlement.

I have no problem accepting that I will never be able to compete with an unemployed 19 year old kid.

Making games to accessable makes them boring and gives them a short lifespann.

That's a pretty neat idea.

At the rest of the topic: wtf is this some Square-Enix "you will only play this amount of time" BS? I don't participate in the race events (for now) because of time (what others are claiming) but this topic is just shameful. Let others be their own people. If you can't (I know I can't) participate, then don't dictate how others go about participating. Fuck.

I don't agree if people want to push themselves to the limit doing these 1week races so be it its there choice. Secondly I doubt many people are account sharing, the ones who are winning are not for sure go watch nugi stream he was 1st and I believe the rest of his team was 2nd 3rd 4th.

If you don't like it thats fine you don't have to do it but don't try to ruin what other people like...I don't like chocolate but I don't tell you not to eat it :)

I like this suggestion, although I would do better with the other kind of race, most likely.

Fully agree. And while we're at it, I think they should cancel the Olympics too, I mean, it's totally unfair, I could probably win loads of medals if I didn't have to work. Oh, and lets not forget football. I mean, I simply don't have the time to practice to become a pro footballer, so why should anyone else get to be one?

Seriously though, these threads are silly.
What do 1 week races provide that a couple of hour ones do not?

1 week races are a serious health hazard for any serious competitor because it is simply most effective to remove as much sleep as possible.

A 1 month race would promote organization and a balanced sleep schedule because it would be most effective in terms of winning the race (it is probably incredibly unhealthy, but nothing close to as bad as 1 week races)
