Get rid of 1 Week Races

Same exact reward for the shorter races, if they want a "trinket" they can compete in the shorter formats. No one forced any of these guys to play as much as they did.

What about when someone dies? Don't pretend it's not likely because it very, very much is with competitions spanning a week or longer. Then will everyone all have a change of heart?

I'm fine with events spanning a day, two days, three days perhaps 5 days. It's when you start pushing up to a week that it's getting really damn dangerous.

I'm utterly in support of people being allowed to do as they will but I just don't see any reason why GGG would support this. It's just asking for controversy and negative press.

Just because you can't point your finger and force someone to take responsibility for their own actions doesn't mean you should find someone else to point your finger at.

Whether GGG offers a unique item to the winner or not is moot: we've heard of people dying after playing WoW/D3 for days at internet cafes, and there was also that kid who developed a blood clot and died after playing CoD for like 14 hours straight without moving from his couch.

Seriously, if you have to be prompted to move around, empty your bladder, eat some food, get some sleep, OR YOU'LL DIE SITTING AT YOUR COMPUTER then you know what? It was only a matter of time before something else got you. This isn't an "if I stop pedaling I'll die!" scenario, it's a F2P videogame with virtual prizes.

I'm all for social responsibility when it's warranted, but making sure you don't develop bed sores is not GGG's responsibility as a game developer; it's yours as an able-bodied sentient being.
I just thought I should propose a change that potentially benefits all parties with minimal downside. The current lack of a playtime limit incentivizes a more unregulable abuse, where multiple players take shifts using the same computer to play a singular character without ever logging it out of the game. There are at least methods GGG can implement to deal with other potential abuses if they so choose.

It is a tight rope to walk, though. If GGG sets no limits to play time, there's greater potential for backlash in the aftermath of an unfortunate accident, and if they set a limit that's unreasonably low in the eyes of too many players, there will be backlash from the community as well.

Like I said, I feel that if a limit to playing time is needed, a hard cap on /played time of about 70% of the duration of the event is a good compromise. It's high enough to maintain the hardcore atmosphere of the event, but not so high as to encourage the extremes of unhealthy behavior.

Then have a race then based on /played time.
ie. You have 1 month of real time to complete 1 week of /played to see how far you can get.

That way the good players with other commitments can still win because they can play in their own time.

/thread

GGG supporting people staying up for potentially fatal lengths of time is morally grey. After somebody ends up dying it becomes rather black and white.

Personally I don't care about the people playing 20 hours a day - it's their dangerous little game. I care as far as GGG actively supporting people putting their life on the line, it's frankly not right. If this game becomes popular and if these week or week+ races become even more popular somebody is bound to die in the end. Beyond that it just creates a whole realm of account sharing possibilities.

People are free to take what risks they want but I utterly disagree with GGG's irresponsible promotion of it.

GGG isent supporting them staying up that long. They are choosing to. They arnt promoting people staying up for extended periods of time. Someone could be playing for 5 mins and die of a heart attack should GGG feel responsible for that to?

I asked this earlier and I'll ask this again. Have any of you bleeding hearts actually stayed up for 72 hours or longer in your life? Try it and report back if you died.

Good luck with that request. :)

I'll also repeat this from earlier in the thread:

"On death, unless you have Fatal Familial Insomnia (extremely rare), then it's not physically possible to stay awake long enough to die from sleep deprivation directly."

As others have said, the deaths that have happened while gaming have been due to dehydration, blood clots etc.
It also severely depends on their weight, amount of weekly exercise, drug consumption mixing or overdosing (energy drinks, coffee, alcohol).

One of my room mates for example - ``I have a 26 of Wiser`s and two cases of monsters, you guys ready to game``

Yes I was.

Most people who died because of playing 40+ hours straight already had serious health issues or they forgot to drink enough.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
