Get rid of 1 Week Races

Should watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH4tAVdOU-I

Explains how I feel about gaming :)

I asked this earlier and I'll ask this again. Have any of you bleeding hearts actually stayed up for 72 hours or longer in your life? Try it and report back if you died.
I never understood people arguing for less variety in a game...

Just because you like some types of races, and not the others, why should ALL races be of the variety you like?

Why can't we have all kinds for all types off players?

Where's the problem here?
I think a pretty good compromise here is to limit the /played time for a given ladder race to be around 70% of the event duration. In the case of the one week race, which takes place during a 168 hour window, that upper limit to /played time would be around 120 hours.

I feel that a limit like this is great enough to still allow for the hardcore endurance feel of the race, which I believe many of us don't want to see removed, to persist, while at the same time preventing players from being compelled to play for extremely unhealthy stretches of time to win. With a limit of 120 hours playing time over the course of a 168 hour event, 48 hours remain for sleeping and other important duties and activities outside the game, preventing the need for a restriction to consecutive hours played.

The problem with this, as someone mentioned earlier, is that then you create incentive for people to have friends preload stacked instances so that someone can cherry pick farming.

Im sure there would be other unintended consequences as well.

The format is fine as is. No one is required to play 145-150 hours in 7 days. The people who CHOOSE to do so are afforded a commensurate benefit to their odds of victory, which is exactly as it should be. Its meritocratic - those who are putting in the best effort are far more likely to receive the reward. Its very fair, and should not be changed.

I like that idea of 70% of the total time, being your limit.

No one is saying take away the hardcore aspect, and if they are, they should reexamine their argument.

But I still don't see why an environment that pushes account sharing/no sleep is the best way to have a race. The point of these races should be that you are an excellent player and can do more then your fellow player(s), right? Because right now the only contest is who is more capable of not sleeping.

And you're right, this is the hardest of the hardcore options. But there has to be a better way.

There are many races and leagues and I would wager that there will be concurrent races at some point in the not too distant future, along with many other race formats. The 1 week format has pros and cons, choose to play accordingly. If you don't like the format, the solution is to find another format to play that you do like, not advocate for changing something other people like just because you don't.

I feel pretty strongly about this issue, that's why I posted. If people don't weigh in on this situation, then how is GGG going to know how the general populace feels?

The worst way to have a discussion is by telling people you disagree with to be quiet. A beta is all about getting opinions out there and finding the best way to build the game.

Really don't see the problem with the 1 week race. Like have been pointed out by many, if you have a normal life, meaning school/job/girlfriend/wife/kids etc just choose another ladder if you want to have a chance at a topspot.

And, once again like been pointed out, no matter what system is put in place there will always be people that wreck their lives over the game. If it is not a 1 week ladder race, it is someone having an idea of winning every ladder available while being the first to reach max lvl etc.
