1200 fusings, no 6 link

Like I've and other people have already said, what do you NEED the 6l for? If you are rich enough to just poor all your wealth into making one then by all means, go to town. But if this is stressing you out just bail and settle for a 5l.

I don't think the problem has much to do with how difficult it is or isn't to get a 6 link. It has to do with the fact that it seems that for OP, the only upgrade he can get is to 6 link the item.
Here's an example of something D3 did barely right. When you get a rare with a max vitality roll of 200, and you get 190, you are happy. Hell, you can get between 175-200 and you would be pretty happy with that, and that's quite a big gap. In this situation, there are only 6 discrete outcomes. The first 4 are averagely acceptable, the 5th is something to be happy about, and the 6th must be achieved by high end characters. This is further compounded by just how important, and how much of a difference, that 6th link is. The OP is essentially "forced" to go for the 6 link, and it is incredibly and insanely rare. This is a bad combination. |

" ya...you are comparing apples to oranges. 6l is like a 3 socket chest in D3 or a 1 socket helm. If the chest has amazing stats, it will go for alot but without the 3 sockets it won't go for 1-2 billion. Except in PoE land, a 4l is very usable, 5l is usually more than enough and 6l is usually overkill or for MFing. Oh and the stats verses stats still stands. A 1.5k armor with 99 life and 41% triple resist will still sell for alot even if it only has 1 socket. A white base 6l of the same armor might sell for about the same or a little more just because of what you said, you can easily roll decent to great affixes on it yourself so there's no reason to need perfect stats over perfect links. At least in POE land a good socket item is worth the same or more than a well rolled item while in D3 you are fighting for 10 more vit or str as an upgrade. Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th

" There's a big difference between rare, and insanely rare. Do you think 1200 (if that number is accurate) attempts is an acceptable level of rarity? On one of possibly two (?) 6 link items. On one of multiple characters? On replaceable items? Sure, the best shouldn't be easily obtainable, and end game should require some grind, but this is approaching and surpassing Diablo 3's calculated bajillion man hours required to obtain a perfectly itemised chest piece. sockets =/= item roll. Stop comparing the two, they aren't remotely equal.

Am i wrong in my thinking or is the 6th slot not commonly used for MF anyway? Its not like you can stack the same supports, not to mention the number of supports that completely will not work for certain skills.
My build was complete on the 5th L so as far as value in gear for me, my upgrades and rarity is consistent with affix roles not links as long as i have my 5th link.
