Many options for perfect rolls but only one perfect socket situation, well, technically 3 3l, 4l and 6l.

you actually answered your own question perfect stats are what you make them for your toon.

certainly if you give up before you get the known max of a stat its not perfect just good stats.

but some players will indeed go the extra mile to max the stats they want.
This games loot system is as RNG as Diablo 3's.

At least there the acquisition process was supported by the AH.

What about a recipe to add one definite link to the sockets of an item?

Which should certainly be extremely costy. So let's say you are using fusings to get 4-5 links and want to perfect the 6 link.

Should it be completely random to achieve the final step? I think that is a little too much and a unnecessary chore...

I'm thinking about something like having the same item (mirror of kalandra on non uniques for example) with some Scourings, then the forbidden magic of Chaotic Orbs, Jewelers and Fuses and and, let's go crazy, at least one 20% quality Gem, which would have to serve as a power generator to make such a black magic mutation possible on the wished 6L item ^^...

Btw: The Hell Unleashed modification for Diablo 2 LOD offered similar ways of costy but efficient item tuning.

Keep the RNG but make the algorithm more predictable when a certain amount of fusings are used repeatedly. Maybe after 100 fusings, start slightly increasing the chance of getting a 6L.
For so many reasons listed in this thread no. Nor should the server have to keep track of all that nonsense.
yes a game that people constantly complain about lag and desync lets have it track every single fusings used on every single item. I can see that going well.

Yeah, that could work I guess, but there would still be a small handful of people who spend thousands and never get one, unless after a point it was guaranteed. I still think the extreme end of the RNG is the problem.

1.6k fusings now, no 6 link. And I'm down to a 4 link too. :P
