So What Is The Point Of Path Of Exile?

Maybe try playing the game more instead of wondering what the point of it is just because it doesn't meet your pre conceived notions on what a video game should be like.

Not every game needs to be the same, I.E. Wowclone.

Are you really just stupid?

Lots of people take questions literally and not as they are intended. I find that happens a lot in video game forums. Ask a question to engage the community and perhaps start a discussion, but get called close-minded or ignorant in response.

If you knew everything, you wouldn't be here asking quesitons? Would you?
Path of Exile is hard on new players, and pretty much EVERYONE'S first character was a piece of shit, and they had to reroll. Literally, I've yet to see someone create a decent build on their first try with no prior experience of Path of Exile.

Rerolling is a massive part of the game. You have 6 classes, but the total amount of builds you can make is mind boggling, and it's crazy what people can do in this game at endgame.

Reroll. Either suck it up or don't play. And here's a video that I as an experienced player can say is a good video for new players to watch.

OP, and POE Community-at-Large, I have a confession to make.

I have played this game for about 150 to 175 hours and have never finished merciless.

The reason for that is I played a few races, or I started new characters once I hit a wall in merciless. I try a build and the build just doesn't work or I can't get the right equipment to balance it out and can't get through the wall.

So, I start over.

There is definitely no shame in starting over. I have fun doing it and trying new things. You could say I'm a "casual." It suits me just fine and I get lots of fun out of it.

Hope you find enjoyment out of it too.

Dosen't matter. Play the way you want to play
Don't forget to drink your milk 👌
Appreciate the constructive comments, like I say, I have enjoyed the game, so will keep going with it and improve upon what I have already learnt.

Thanks all

That's why I suggest to read guides. ;) My First Chara, a melee Marauder is still alive and kicking. A (modified) beginners guide was really helpful to get into the game. Abandoned the Marauder after beating merciless once and went to more fun builds, but since the Release and some rebuild it's more fun than before to play melee.
I see no real fun in trying to build a chara without guides in PoE if you are new. I want to PLAY and enjoy the game, not wasting weeks with failed builds and redo and redo the charas. Less is more (I only have 3 main charas). Better read into the game before you play, the PoE Website helps alot and in the Forums, people will find basicly every info they need to jump into the game and have fun from the very first minute. :)

But sadly, most people don't read readme's & Co, that's why they will have stress ingame instead of fun. I prefer the other way round. Stress and brainstorming before playing and then fun ingame. ^^
Dear OP, if you go into cruel you will still be doing the exact same quests, killing exact same monsters in the exact same areas. Only difference will be that they will be stronger to match your lvl.

So I really dont see what's bothering you in terms of going into cruel or starting anew? :D

this is a H&S game, it is repetitive and grind by its nature. It is like playing a first person shooter game and complaining that there is not enough strategy to deploy.
I actually don't think the question is "stupid". Games, and genres of games, have different "styles". Many games are of the "play through once" type: you explore the story, you beat the end boss, you move on to the next game or perhaps do post-game content.

"Rogue"-like, Diabloesque Action RPGs are in contrast typically progressive games in the sense that you go through "generations" of characters. You play, collect items and expertise/knowledge, and then you make a new, improved character: you have items waiting, you have learned new things, you know better what you like and what you dislike, etc. So as you play, you (as a player) become better and your characters more streamlined.

Hardcore takes this a step further insofar that it offers very strong consequences for making mistakes, and it forces you to learn by making you start over. The fun here comes from the adrenaline rush. I played HC in Diablo 2, and it is what sustained the fun for me for years. In PoE, I stick to softcore for the first season/league, because I simply don't know enough to tackle HC.

There are other ways to play, too. Some people do it for the treasure hunting, others want a perfect build that does the most damage, some only use what they find, others pick a theme and stick to it, or they aim to do the challenges (getting one of each class to 65), or focus on achievements, and so forth.

Basically, you can play the game in many different ways, and the point is the same in all cases: to have fun! You could always follow guides for now (which is what I do) and later develop your own builds.
As far as i understood after messing on PoE forum is that PoE serves to spend time until Diablo 3 gets better with Reaper of Souls.

All i read is Diablo 3 and Blizzard hate. Clearly PoE players want to give some message to them and will return when things get better. Its how i explain the hate i find here ...

Well, path of exile is a game so the point of it is to have fun. If your char is progressing so slowly or dying so much in cruel that its no longer fun then make a new character. 30 hours is a very very long time to go through normal. Now that you sort of know the game you should easily be able do normal in half that time if you focus on making progress. If your still progressing with your char and don't wanna give it up yet then dont.

That said you will have to reroll at some point if your build is poor and you want to keep progressing. That's part of the fun of this game though, there are lots of builds and play styles to try out. If your worried about your char not turning out right and don't want to spend a ton of time trying to figure it out on your own look up a build. There's lots of good builds out there that will give you some advice on how to make a char. It'll be easier to make your own build once you've played a solid one and understand what it takes to make a good char.

In any case, do whatever you want with the game as long as your having fun with it.
