So What Is The Point Of Path Of Exile?

PoE isn't for you, just try a new game.

you put in 30 hours? to beat normal?

Well it was my first time through the game, so I always explored every single section of the zone before I proceeded to the quest etc

Just took my time with the game as best I could, if I make a new character I am sure it would go alot faster.

As for the comments saying " poe is not for you ", Do not get me wrong I fully enjoyed my time with the game and plan to continue playing it and improving with it.

The thread was more to give me a idea of what poe main focus is, if its to try multiple builds with multiple characters and kill critters, then I am fine with that, it is what it is.

1. To make my own build and see how strong is it.
2. To have fun ( I having so much fun :D)
3. To enjoy the best community ever ( no AH, everyone save unique/good rare in guild bank to help newbies, ppls keep asking me to loot good items while I trying to let them loot *lol*....)

Believe it or not, some people have lives and can't spend every minute of every day perfecting their PoE skills.

I've been playing this game since CB and it took me until last night to finish normal with a Scion I started on release day.

Yes, if I'd sat down and played non-stop until the end of normal I would have done it in far less game hours. When you can only play a small amount at a time, it takes a lot longer to get through the content. Especially if you've just started and are trying to experience everything.

+1 to the above.

I just finally killed Piety last night and still have to do all of the sceptre of god/dominus fight still on my first new character I started on release. With my playing time limited I figure that should take me another 4 to 6 hours which means it will take me most likely 40 hours or so in total to beat normal.

Do I care that it will take me so long. Nope, I've been enjoying myself the entire way through. Not rushing reading listening to all the new world lore with the weathered carvings/graffiti/books. Marveling at all the new art/critters, all the new background noise effects, and let's not forget the new music. I'm also loving all the new monsters that have been added into the game.

So to the OP to answer your question at least from my personal point of view the whole point of playing Poe for me is to escape from real life for a bit, sit back and mindlessly slaughter monsters in the never ending hunt for loot all the while running through environments that to me are both visually and audibly stunning.
Luke: Sorry we have to leave you here, but it just ain't right to eat your wife's and daughter's brains. Plus you're really disgusting and I don't want to spend anymore time with you.
Be nice to the OP, he's not ranting or anything, he just expected an MMO here.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

In no way did I expect or want a mmo, If I wanted a mmo I would go play one.

what is this?, old path of exile dedicated fans who at the slightest bit of gripe someone may have with the game must be purged?

And believe it or not, but there will be many people who are trying path of exile for the first time who have never played a similar game in its genre ( such as my self ), and therefore have no idea what the focus of such games are or objectives.

Well despite some people with idiotic comments and lame attempts to troll, there has been some great responses from majority of members on this forum/thread.

So thank you to all those who fall into the latter category.

repeating the game, trying out other builds, learning by your mistakes, learning game mechanics, doing better the next time - building and gearing a viable char, progressing further and further, being able to play more difficult Content and last but not least: LOOOOT :D

Thats the game. Give it a try :-)

Good reply, glad to see your question was honest and not some whine (there's a lot of that here).
Nothing to see here.
30 hours aint too shabby for your first play-through. It wouldn't matter if someone said it took them 100 hours there still is no reason to troll them. Hell I stand around talking to my guild mates half the time.... if you are in standard or domination there's no point in rushing and stressing yourself out. For what? Just to be able to brag about how fast you can level up? Who cares. The races are for racing. Standard is for people who just want to have fun and play on their own time, their own style, and basically do whatever they want.

Sadly every person I spoke to, told me my build was very bad and it would be easier to just start a new character as continuing into cruel would be a screaming pain of agony, this kind of annoyed me a little and got me wondering...

Thanks

Your biggest problem here is that people are haters. There are no limits to how much of a pain in the ass people can be when they forget the they started this game themselves at one point in time and sucked. RE-rolling a new character can sometimes help a situation or you can just try and play through with the current character you have and learn a lot more from your mistakes...... the biggest defense in the game is moderate life/es and always have the highest resists possible. good luck and have fun.
Why ask Why and start by denying before you have actually tried?
