So What Is The Point Of Path Of Exile?

" Maybe try playing the game more instead of wondering what the point of it is just because it doesn't meet your pre conceived notions on what a video game should be like. Not every game needs to be the same, I.E. Wowclone. Thanks for the reply CharanJaydemyr, I am fully appreciative of the fact it is a free to play game ( and a good f2p model).
I think I will continue with the Templar still, and just try to improve in the learning of the games builds and stats etc ( The vast ammount of depth is indeed a learning curve that I hope I can grasp) |

Making my own build that doesn't suck by Act 3 Cruel.
At least, for me. :P I'm on my third character now, it keeps me busy and entertained. It's definitely a learning experience, which makes it so fun for me, I think. I had done a cookie cutter before, but decided to do my own thing, and it's way more fun that way when you have that uncertainty and the creative inspiration and the triumph when your build is actually working out okay. Course, how many times I can try and fail before giving up completely is anyone's guess. " I think telling you your build is flawed and telling you precisely what build to run are two entirely different things. You could very much run whatever build you want, but for success, most builds follow a few baseline rules of having enough HP nodes, and you have to think about how to synergize your build and your gear. " Starting point for learning about builds would be the class forums right here... for Templar, http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-forum/41 . The advantage of the forum is you don't just get to see people's builds, you get to see lots of debate about them ;) In the process you can learn a lot about the mechanics of the various skills and passives. Just make sure to keep a passive tree open to help you decipher the acronyms that people insist on using :p |

Dude,
if you wanna play nemesis add me (just click my name and look for my highest nemesis char) I can help and explain the game a bit for you. As to the question: What is the point? the point to me is making succesfull characters, get as far as i can, the best and most powerful that i can. And i tend to play hardcore, so its getting there without dying :) The challenge is to beat what the game puts in front you, you beat Normal, now there's Cruel, then Merciless, can you make your character powerful enough to do it? Can you later do maps? Can you amass enough currency to craft a very powerful item? Those are the challenges i see in this type of game ,and in poe in particular. Adn the question i ask myself always is : Am i having fun doing it? I've stopped playing poe a lot, for a lot of time, but come back every 4 months or so. to check the new stuff, now with release im quite happy with the game, and looking forward new content. |

There are actually some upsides to starting over. It's a different experience every time. Often times I find major differences in the loot from character to character.
I can see why you are upset, but in a month or two you will be able to get through normal so easily that it won't even matter if you have to start over anyway. |

In my opinion, the point of PoE is to create strong characters so that you can farm wealth as fast as possible. The quests/zones/areas are completely secondary and more of a "background".
The meat of the game is your character. It is a representation of the time, effort, and skill that you put in to create it. |
