Is it really that bad to cancel a trade and accept a higher offer?

I don't think it's about bonds forming, Charan.

only a small fraction of my in-game friends are from Australia.
the rest are from half-way across the world: Europe, Africa, the USA, Canada, Brazil...
I don't think there is any chance for me to meet any of them in real life.
I also think the odds of meeting some of the Aussie guys are very slim.

so both payoff and punishment are very unlikely, unless you believe in Karma.
I don't.

it's just... well, I can't explain it really.
guys who can be **** in game and good guys IRL, or good in game and **** IRL, must have a stronger willpower, and much better acting skills than I do.

You are greedy and don't stand by your word. Sure, you can do that. Expect praise from people with that kind of moral attitude. For the fact, that this is a video game I don't have to be a dick. Everyone though has a threshold point. I never turned back on my word tbh, in this game too, but honestly, when someone outbids by 10 exalted, I don't know if I would stay true to that idea. A 10-20% outbid after I say "deal" would not make me flinch though. It all depends when you will compromise your standards, under what pressure, not if. Some of you judge far too easily.

If you can take advantage of a situation in some way, it is your duty to do it! Why should the race always be to the swift? Or the jumble to the quick witted? Should they be allowed to win simply because of the gifts God gave them. I say, cheating is a gift, man gives himself!

How many times I gotta say the same thing: the offer was mixed currency, but someone gave me a different offer with pure currency. I chose pure over mix. It is simply easy to convert than to find various sellers and buyers for each type.

As long as you act fair to all trade partners, stay reasonable and try to avoid damaging your reputation as a trader you should be fine.

If you put 1EX b/o on an item in your shop and you actually get someone offering 1Ex, sell the item. Just do not start some bullshit pretending to be offline, letting your trade partner wait couple days while you try to get even higher offers somewhere else.

On the other hand, if you put 1EX b/o on an item in your shop before going offline and next time checking your shop you notice that several people already went crazy on bidding even higher and higher, ofc you back up from your b/o offer and give everyone the chance to give his last offer and maximize your profit.

Just avoid to troll people and try to stick to your word.

Try pulling this off in real life and you'll see if it's bad :P Yeah I know this is a game, but you're playing this game with real humans.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
its kinda shitty behavior imo. but then again, there isn't really any right or wrong in this instance. If you don't have a problem with not standing by your word it's fine, that's your choice. But at the same time, the people you are dealing with probably wont have any respect for you. You will have to decide for your self if you are ok with that or not.
