Is it really that bad to cancel a trade and accept a higher offer?
If you get a better offer, I think it's fine to take that over the previous offer. Nothing wrong with it.

What do you mean by "final?" It was that I agreed and was in a party with the person, and then I quit the party and went to another place to trade with someone else.
I also think it's fine, but I'm wondering if others think it's not and if they do this to others or if they were the ones that had it being done to them. Its all fair game as long as you don't mind that being done to you as well. That's called putting yourself in their shoes. And of course, make sure to at least tell them why you are suddenly leaving the party and all. Leaving right away isn't exactly a very polite thing to do. You could even try asking if they will up their offer as suggested above.
So the next time you make a trade for some really good item that you have been wanting and the guy bails on you at the last minute because someone else offered more (or is a friend of his), you can think back to this. Last edited by Zealflare#7547 on Oct 11, 2013, 3:35:41 PM

Personally, I'll just say this much: if I really wanted an item, I'll outbid another person by offering higher. However, if someone does bail on me, I don't mind--it's part of life.

How can you deal with your real life if you lose your dignity in game?

If anything it is just poor form.
I always take a moment to let the original bidder know that I have gotten a better offer. In fact if they match it I will sell to them first. If they don't want to go higher at least you have moved the responsibility to them. Of course this is only in the interest of being respectful to how I would want a trade conducted with me. Certainly anything goes in Wraeclast. But I figure it only takes a moment or two, and then its win win. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Personally, I think it's just plain dirty. it's horrible business practices and makes you look like you have absolutely no morals. If you already entered into an agreement with someone, you should follow through with your end of the agreement. If you wanted more, you should have held out for more, rather than accepting the offer and then bailing.
There's been several times where I've agreed to sell something, in many different games, and then got offered more. I took the loss every time because I am a person of my word. It seems like most people would do the opposite and opt for the higher offer. People tend to not give a crap about others in games. They only care about themselves and getting the best out of every situation for themselves. I have had this done to me many times. The first few times, I got irritated and called the seller every name in the book. Now, I look at it as them having a problem, not me and go about my gaming day. I don't need anything in a game bad enough to effect me in real life. SynTrSr - Trickster Soulrend/Bane

Before the Accept button is hit by both sides, the trade isn't guaranteed, and neither side should 100% expect it to finish without either side getting a better deal before then, or even being unable to continue the trade at that moment due to emergency.
That said, once I accept someone's offer (in PoE, I count accepting as when you finally get into the same instance as the other person with the amount already worked out), someone else would have to double the offer (or, in the case of already high amounts, offer me a good bit more) to get me to reconsider, and even then I'd offer the person a chance to do better on the deal...but that's not something you should expect, but it is just doing right by people. |
