Is it really that bad to cancel a trade and accept a higher offer?

I just got some butt-hurt replies after I accepted a trade and cancelled on them because I got a better offer (unexpectedly). Am I supposed to be having a guilt trip because of this? Lol. Just curious about what others have experienced and how they feel about it.

Sure, if you are an egoistic person without any ounce of self-respect, so that you whore yourself out to the highest bidder, then sure, nothing to feel guilty about.

Another simple way to look at it: How would you feel if you'd just agreed to a trade, on favorable terms, thus ending your search for an item you may have been shopping for for a while at that price, when the other party backs out?

That is how you just made the other guy feel. To him, you ARE a dick. ='[.]'=

This entire thread is a perfect example of what's wrong with the world: greed and most people's word not being worth shit.

Two buyers in a bidding war, yes, highest bidder wins, loser doesn't get to complain. But as a seller, once you accept a bid, highest or not, you accepted the bid, the deal is done. Being greedy and going back on your word after completing a deal makes you... <insert your words of choice>.

OP... if you were an auctioneer in real life you'd be out of business. Selling your wares, taking bids, going once, going twice, sold... and then canceling the transaction if someone raises their hand and offers more after the fact... people will get up and walk out, and word of mouth will kill you.

"Dick move" or not... I dont agree with what you did as I stand by my word. But then again you would rather want some other currency than what offered and I understand that.

I had a few episodes when selling some stuff where I wanted GCP's but got offered other currency but at the same value. I told those people that I would hold on to "their" item but they had to trade to the right currency before trading with me.
I could go MF while they were getting the right currency instead of me sitting in trade chat trying to do it myself. I even got higher offers in some cases but did hold on to the item and the Price that weas agreed and that have worked out well... I got the currencies I wanted and they got their items.

This is golden. Great idea.

what the op portraits is ( in the material world) illegal in most countries. breaching a verbal agreement can end in pressing charges , asking compensations etc.
I did this once because i was unaware of the market value of a "soul taker", i found this in a map and since i had no use for it i decided to sell it.

i asked 28 exalt in trade chat and got instant offers, i knew something was wrong when i was met with so many offers, so i decided to put it on 30 exalt. Some dude offered this and i said "ok" to him (do keep in mind i diden't have any trading expertise at this point, so while i said "ok" i dident really mean "ok you can buy it for that price")

I ended up selling that axe for 35 exalt, and surely i would do this again. U don't get an item like this every day, and i feel u must make the most out of it when u do, ore you are shooting yourself in the foot.

As for the guy offering 30 exalt, he was quite upset, and i do feel for him (i tried to wisp him afterward and sell it to him btw, but he did not reply so his loss) but i would play the market again if i found an item like this again.

I think everybody would do this when they dont know the trading game and are just looking to make the most wealth out of a RNGesus ray of light.

i think not. most peeps come prepared or set the price open (to the highest bidder).

you must be a joy to have as a friend in real life!

You:Hey, want to buy my old pc? just $200.

friend: Sure bro, thanks!

You:...wait...you'd pay $200 that easily? what about $400?

Friend: ...really?
I do Believe its abit sad to see people who got a FT price (fast trade price)

someone pm and takes the FT, 10 minuter after the person pm back and said someone offered more, this is not the way to sell stuffs if you put a FT price then ignore your own Words.

It just result to either a flame war, to negotiate feelings toward the seller.

i think until the trade is completed everything is fair

i would feel bad if it would happen to me, but at the end, the trade system replaces the items that you don't want to farm, just because something is fair for the buyer doesn't mean it's fair for the seller (especially if he's got those items from farming)
