Is it really that bad to cancel a trade and accept a higher offer?
Is he asking how is that legal, breaking game rules, or unjustified? Or perhaps is he asking if what he did was bad? Some people already have "the apple of knowledge" out of their system it seems.

You know, this is the kind of thread that could have ended at page 3.

" So your sugestion would be that i sold that soul taker for 25 exalt to a flipper, so he could enjoy the profits and i would feel all warm and fuzzy inside? "ok" I think i will enjoy my 35 exalts i made from this axe all the same. Considering i wont see any new wealth soon. I put up my example because i DON'T trade ever, but an item like soul taker in your inventory literately begs you to start the trading game. And me being inexperienced with item prices made it so i might have offended that one dude. In retrospect i should have asked a PC from somebody with trade wisdom, ore look up the item on an indexer site to get a rough estimate of it's value. Instead i just put it up for a certain price and depending on the responses i got i upped the asking price. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" 1. yes the words were used but not as you said initially. 2. yes if it takes time and effort for a seller, like you said yourself, it takes time and effort for a buyer too, by the same standards (yours). 3. good you stray from your initial post here aswell. people in this thread aren´t getting mad. nor are they calling the world their friends. but i think the difference for you is that you don´t follow a certain set of priciples, which many others do. i for example treat ¨random guys¨ with the equal respect id like to receive. if i wouldn´t do this, i would find it hypocritical and i would not contribute to society. so i would break with some of my own principles. the movie ¨the box¨ displays this thread´s theme quite nicely. people are offered a box with a button. if they press the button then somebody in the world dies but they will get a million dollars in cash. i wouldn´t recommend watching this movie btw. a person with good christian morals or even the more elaborate teachings of confucius, or simply someone with a conscience would never press the button. however if you´d follow some of the reasoning mentioned earlier in this thread, then you´d only see a great opportunity. |

Who cares man?
If you get a better offer, tell them and give them a chance to match... If they don't then forget em. People are always salty when they don't get what they want, when they want it for how much they want. It's part of the problem playing online games mostly populated by spoiled teenagers, with a superiority complex. I trade for me, not to help the sucker I get to buy my crap. |

" By your explanation of why it is immoral means that making auctions for items is also immoral. When allowing time for other bids they are inconsiderate of the current bidder, they become ignored and held on a string for a much longer time. I hear "it's not moral" but little to actually provide reason why except the fact that it was typed out in an agreement. why is that so important though? the reason people would be upset is because their hopes were lead on and wasted a whole 4 minutes if that. Why is the buyers emotions so much more important than the seller and the new buyer? It shouldn't be surprising to them if the seller gets a better offer and trades it to the latter. It only makes sense. I would have no problem with it if i was the buyer. I would be bummed that the timing didn't work out and I was going to get a good deal but it doesn't make sense for the other buyer to be ignored when he has more to offer and got his say in before the nick of time. |

" Why do you want to live when you still cease to exist in X years? Why do you want to be a "good person", why do you want to feel "good"? Why do you have ideals? Why do you want to follow your personal ethical guideline? Of course, one could refer to evolutionary advantages certain aspects have had throughout human history, but nowadays a lot of people are able to reproduce regardless due to how safe society and how easy it is to reproduce. One can even ask: why is it important for the individual itself to be leave an offspring? It is certainly important for the survival of the "family", but certainly not necessarely for the individual. Instead of trying to find rational reasons for why people have certain fundamental ideas, we can simply just realize that people have ideals. A widespread such is the concept of "A man of his word"; that's enough to understand. This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

" Yes, I do. They just aren't principles that you agree with. " I, too treat random guys with the amount of respect that I expect from them, which is friendly, open discussion of the trade. I've been Buyer #1 in this situation, and when the guy PMed me and said he got a better offer, since he was polite and timely I just said "No problem, man" and got on with my life. But you missed my point. The random Craigslist guy is the seller, not the buyer. As the buyer you shouldn't have any preconceptions about this complete stranger unless you believe that your own trading principles ENTITLE you to reciprocation. " And no, I wouldn't push the button. Even looking at it from a non emotional perspective (which is not something I often do in real life) it would be a bad deal. Everlasting guilt (huge negative utility) in return for money, when I have all I need and which always has diminishing returns? No deal. Last edited by Farandine#6720 on Oct 12, 2013, 7:02:04 PM

You could also tell the person, "hey I was just offered blah". Then they have a chance still of buying, and you don't have to back out on your agreement.

All you got in this world is your balls and your word.
Shouldn't matter what someone offered after you joined party to trade with first individual, the trade should still go through with the first buyer. Cancelling out and leaving to someone else is a fucking bitch move. grow a pair. GORLAK SMASH WORDS!!
