Chris confirms to go through mid: Scion or bust
Oh ye of little faith. I'm confident enough in GGG to assume that it will still be a great passive system. Don't be afraid of a little change folks, if nothing else it will take away a little of the stagnation us OB/CB have come to feel after afew months of basically the same skill tree.
Everything I do I rush through so I can do something else.

" Chopping up the skill tree into little bite sized pieces is not a "little change." Improving the skill tree would be making more things possible, not less. But GGG is scared of the possibilities contained within their own skill tree (perhaps they don't have the manpower to balance it?)....So they are chopping it up. |

If I had to make any guesses about how the skill tree ends up, I'd say IR+Grace will no longer be viable on CI for non-Scions (and shadows).

Also dislike this change very much. This will break like 80% of current existing characters. All of mine aswell.
It's never a good thing to break the players' characters. A full wipe would have been the cleaner solution. |

As others have said we need to wait how the passives are moved around.
I wanted to write a post about agreeing with mosst posters, but than i went to try if i could make a build utilising nodes all over the tree without touching the middle. And i was surprised - i actually managed to make a build (for this experiment i tried a cold crit CI witch) who has: ZO,CI,GR,IR,US on lvl 76 - 79 (depending on bandit rewards). It still has more than enough crit chance, 6 power charges, huge crit multi and enough ES nodes. Link So i guess with enough planning it would still be possible to make working builds which cover much of the tree even without a scion. If additionally some nodes are moved somwhat closer i guess we will still have quite some freedom even with the "vanilla" classes. But in the end it'll all depend on the look of the 1.0 tree. I could be wrong though, maybe my theorycraafting experiment was a lucky choise which just worked, but i hope i'm right... " I doubt that's the reason. I've got a couple of characters that will probably be hosed by the tree changes, but I don't think it was done to force people into the 4 mo. leagues or to force a soft reset by getting players to abandon their characters. I think it was done to make the passive tree less overwhelming for all the new players 1.0 attracts. If you make it obvious you can't (easily) get to certain parts of the tree from other parts, then that leaves a new player less of the tree to look at when trying to decide what to do. The scion is put in for those that want to do the more esoteric minimax'ed builds. That doesn't change the fact that it sucks for anyone whose build is going to be broken, but I think that is their reason. The one thing I find really odd about this is requiring the scion to be unlocked. I get why you want that for new players, but it's just going to make current players grab their highest level character and steamroll normal to unlock the scion. This is exactly what Chris said he didn't want to see, yet GGG have created an environment that greatly encourages this. If they really don't want people running level 90's through normal, they should pre-unlock the scion for anyone who has a character in cruel or higher. |

I believe there was a quote from Chris saying that the Scion is an account-wide unlock and is unlocked for characters that have already finished Normal.
I don't know about you, but I actually WANT to take my time and search for the Scion as something to do and the character dialogue when you do meet her. But that's me. ________ I don't have high hopes of GGG rebalancing the skilltree in a way that can leave most builds that go through the middle intact. It's not like I have no faith in GGG, but their current track record at "balancing" the game has been spiffy at best. The best thing they've done so far in OB was the Ranger tree redrawing/balancing. Wait until it's released and rework your builds before hating, folks. Also, expect more of this kind of things in the future. We know that GGG are big fans of M:TG, on which the competitive scene works around throwing to the trash bin almost every deck every X months. And you won't hear a complain from its players. |

" Where are you getting these numbers? By this logic I think we will see 53.26% decline in vaal pact builds! That much is obvious. twitch.tv/nugiyen (Live almost everyday from 15.00 +1 GMT)
