Chris confirms to go through mid: Scion or bust
Well, we will have to see the tree. If its good for the game overall then we will just have to suck it up like our builds that got killed in the skill nerfs, in the aura nerfs etc. If escaping the Scion is a point massacre itll be a great shame but we will know soon enough.
I have to be honest, I do find it a bit depressing that my main builds are going to be destroyed. For people with a ladder mind set or hardcore players who eventually rip and say goodbye to their builds that may be fine because you are not attached to your characters in the same way. But I play in standard for a reason, to press my characters at my own pace and keep them, I play mostly solo, mostly self found, for me doing this is like taking your ladder characters 3 weeks into the ladder when you are 90 and pushing through maps and then completely destroying the tree and saying sry cant play that character now, cockblocked, blueballed. To describe how it makes me feel to a hc character its like ripping with your 6 link at the height of the mapping season the day after you fused it, minus the bit where it was your fault so you have to see the funny side. Its someone coming in and taking a shit on my dinner just when I was feeling enthusiastic. But we got changes to maps, we got fusing being looked at, we got new areas, we got changes to xp calcs, new skills, a new class, new monsters, we got so much good stuff to be excited about that I can take it, just about. Im still smiling so its a net win. I just really hope the Scion isnt going to be forced to take a bunch of build specific nodes to get out in specific directions which will completely hamper the idea that she can jump out across the tree and specialise where she chooses. It really needs to have the potential to be a properly neutral class if this is going to work and not completely trash build diversity. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Probably you have to take a lot of useless nodes to your build if you want to go to many different tree parts with a scion. Also some notables will be moved most likely. And i think after the 4months league the skill tree will be re-evaluated and adjusted properly, if there are too much scions around.

Part of the problem, that may or may not exist is that how do you know what to buff and what to nerf or what to rebalance when anyone can go all over the tree. I think the fact that in many cases you have to travel as much as you do and ignore so much along the way is very telling that a bunch of crap that you ignored is useless and needs buffed, or the stuff that you are traveling so far to get is over powered or needs adjusted. Or your profession just may not have anything really useful near it.
As it is in its current state its difficult to buff or nerf anything, If you buff stuff than whats to stop somone from grabbing everything you just buffed. And if you nerf somthing whats to stop that from breaking everyones builds becasue there are only so many viable builds that reley on alot of the same things that they traveled all the way across the tree to get. I for one think the tree is 75% trash that everyone ignores. If GGG restricts movement across the tree a little bit maybe they can make some of that otherwise useless stuff that seems to be there just to look pretty usefull. I think some 90lvl + players will be pretty upset about this. The whole idea will be to create a scion character if you want to utilize the middle of the tree, and this is all cool and nice for specialized characters. But imagine you spend all your efforts on a 90+ char that is now destroyed, i would be quite upset about it.
(didn't havoc run true the middle with his lvl 100 build, imagine him having to recreate a scion from lvl 1 to recreate the build he desired :o) ) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" This. I suspect there will be some more esoteric 'hybrid' combos that more or less require a Scion, but the most obvious and well-known synergies (e.g. Ghost Reaver + Vaal Pact) will either be put on a reasonably efficient path that doesn't go through the middle, or changed so that it's not such a no-brainer (e.g. Vaal Pact might be redesigned to favour life builds over ES builds somehow). If the outer tree doesn't change too much, one thing to consider is that the outer highways can be pretty efficient at going from one sector to the next (e.g. Marauder -> Templar -> Witch), and the Scion is the one class that is presumably nowhere near any of the outer highways. Wheeling around the outside may still be a good option for a lot of cross-attribute builds. Now that crossing the centre is no longer an option, what I'm actually hoping for the other classes is that their starting locations get pushed further out, towards the edge of the tree. i already hate scion!
and the change on the skilltree ( read: nerf to old crossweb hybrids) i'll still keep trucking along because PoE has a spot in my gamer's daily schedule not happy but we'll survive the only reason i refrain from bitching about passive tree nerf going on to old hybrids is that i strongly hope it'll be the last change ( = nerf ) to the good old multiclass builds. seems to be balanced around lv 90 come 1.0 (CB was around lv 70, OB around lv 80) my 2 orbs :) If you're leaving PoE, chances are I'll rezz you as my minion! MWHAHAHAH

" As I posted awhile ago, everyone that had a build that went through the center of the tree will create a Scion, and the game will become "Path of Scion". And from Chris's comment, GGG is aware of this and trying to prevent it by moving passives around. Can't wait to see the final 1.0 tree. It will be interesting. |

If the middle is only accessible by the scion, certain keystones become available only to Scion and 50% of the other classes.
Unless they make the middle points unbelievably shitty, we're going to have a flood of Scions. Last edited by Idioticus#7813 on Oct 10, 2013, 8:21:27 AM

if this is true, then all my fears have come to pass, and no one will be playing anything but Scion, before too long.
if it isn't, Chris needs to be more careful in his Raptr statements, because players read and closely examine every word. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun |
