Chris confirms to go through mid: Scion or bust

Cutting off the route across the middle is quite sad. Builds that resolve around this are forced Scion now and this means that at least 3 combos:
(witch <-> duelist, ranger <-> templar, marauder <-> shadow)
Would be Scion players, I can imagine marauder <-> witch etc. also to be Scion players.

The next thing I don't like is the moving of nodes which depending on what nodes they are could ruin current builds, the change for some could be pretty much a reset (considering how gear is often build tailored too). I do think for most it will be fixable by rolling a Scion, however quite punishing for anyone above lvl 80 or 85+ (make your choice: I keep my character or I keep my gear).

I think a proper new highway should be build (we had the inner route, than sort of a route which starts of at the characters (the paths that connect str int str or str dex dex str, depending if you are at a hyrbid section of the tree or not) and the outer route. I suggest that the inner two nodes at each character can be traversed (not only by that character) and these routes get buffed by either removing or boosting these in between nodes. One traverse could be 3 nodes more efficient. Too lazy to get the picture, but I got it in one of my old posts (few months ago).

Instead of moving essential nodes, it might also be better to place equivalent nodes or copies of nodes.

Spoiler
In fact I think that passive tree special leagues would be nice, just a 4 month league with a changed passive tree (new routes, removed paths, extra notables etc. etc.) keeps theory crafters busy.

I hope it is done right, but at first glance it does look like the Scion will be the character to go for those long tree traverses. I like to note that the general opinion was always negative towards character diversification. Always has been a minority voice, my idea about visually enriching characters in their native roles as to create diversification I think is still the best method to cater to both parties. (again big f'n post old one can be found somewhere).

I've not really had any characters traverse the middle, so that part doesn't concern me too much. Scion class tho, poe's grime aesthetic > boobs and bleach.
We tested it extensively

Why are people so insecure about their builds? I really think this is exciting, making builds that just went EVERYWHERE was to easy and everything ended up looking the same.

The addition (read: ADDITION) of 30 more passive nodes that are more specialized is great. We need more passive nodes that are really really good so that we do not feel forced to go across the passive skill tree.

I see this as a positive step in the right direction and as a way of making the class choice matter. Why have classes if they all look the same?

I freaking WISH I could be specialized without hoping all over the passive tree..
I really like the idea of not being able to go through the middle. I'm probably the one of the few.

Picking a character class will now matter more. Before I could make almost the exact same builds with two or three different classes.

Players wanted class identity and now we will have class identity, or a person can have more skill freedom and play scion.

The game has exactly zero 'class identity' beyond aesthetics. It has starting points. For the entirety of the open beta, critics that have pointed out exactly that have been told that:
' That's the awesome thing about PoE, there's build freedom' now, they have fucked up the 'freedom' of building that was so 'awesome' and now apparently:
' That's the awesome thing about PoE, there's class differentiation'

While still, GGG still has made not one class in this game, just one half decent, and now, six shitty starting points.

For class diffrentiation ? there should be a keystone, or maybe three keystones at the heart of each starting point for each 'class' that gives specific attributes that scale throughout the game based on the amount of strength/int/dex a player has and how each keystone scales with each attribute. THEN there would be classes in this game, each with passive attributes unattainable to any other class, so that selecting a class in PoE would be more of a decision than 'Which passives are closer?'

Instead, how have they 'balanced' the Scion ? given her mandatory sub optimal passives along every path to leave the centre ? I can only guess, but with GGG design, I would not be surprised.

I'm somewhere in the middle.

Unable to go through the middle at all? Porridge too cold.

Able to go through the middle without touching Scion start? Porridge too hot.

Able to go through the middle, but only by touching the Scion start and thus the exact same passive tree could be either a Scion or whichever of the Original Six you picked? Porridge is just right.

I guess, though, if I have to pick between hot porridge and cold porridge, I'd go cold. Don't want to scald myself.

there is pro and cons globally, but I would need to see the passiv tree before having an final opinion about it...

Anyway any new drastic changes in the passiv tree mean new hundreds hours of theorycrafting and this is welcome :)

Has anyone seen the revised skill tree? Is there a link somewhere that describes the new passives and where they'll be?

If not, all this whining about totally blowing up this or that and whatever else is just useless conjecture.
Why the middle is cut? because they want the chars to be specialised, as now we have a general Char, who can play like those IR CI Zealoth oath chars. Otherwise whats the point of the scion, if you can just get around her start area? This why there is actually gonna be a decision to specialise, or jack of all trades.

Of course it is bad for those chars which were made when no scion was available, so I understand those as well
