PoE 2 Is For Tourists

it's funny coming off the back of multiple leagues in a row where people talked about how insane gigajuiced T17s are, to seeing people now say that PoE1 has no challenge left

"Being disrespectful of players time".

This is maybe the best phrasing of critisism I've seen so far.
For players that can't put in ten hour shifts every day -most won't, what you do not want when sitting down a couple of hours, is getting from level 30 to 31 slouching through two maps, getting zero loot, constantly dodgerolling backwards.

That is not fun and rewarding gameplay.
If I want that, I'll go play dark souls again.

Dont compare Dark Souls with this trash, Dark Souls rewards skill and has meaningful combat, PoE 2 is just an unrewarding slog fest.

Props for the sound and art direction guys tho, they effin killed it, i wish the "balancing" team was half as competent as these guys.

Truth. Dark Souls is fun because despite the fact that you can beat the game with minimal gear if you're great, exploration of the world is heavily rewarded with all kinds of options and character building items and abilities. It feels good to explore in Dark Souls. PoE2 it's just a chore between boss fights, and the boss fights are easy and don't last long.

All it has in common with Dark souls is rolling.

This strategy is familiar. I think they took the players with the most hours in these games and made it challenging for them and then doubled it.

I believe this strategy led to the success of POE the first time around. It is what got me here in the first place.

They did the opposite for POE1. It started it harder with less loot drops and they never planned to make it easier and more loot drops (they wanted the D2 experience). They then made the campaign easier and more loot dropping and shifted the challenge to endgame. Years down the road they added ruthless to be similar to beta POE1 and it is barely played by the population.

I agree with your post. I was alluding to a different game that followed the "and then we doubled it" strategy that led to a large influx of poe players around the time of the poe1 betas. I was one of those. I don't want to criticize the current tuning as I have been informed by many that non enjoyment of it must be a pebkac problem.

I will simply play and buy packs or not. I think this game will be successful as there are clearly a lot of passion on both sides of the tuning argument. I am both enjoying the game and not enjoying the game as I play. The difficulty seems to be a bit rng in the same instance with the same build and the same playstyle.

The game has a lot of potential for a variety of playstyles, it will be interesting to watch what the direction will be.

90% of these people blindly praising the game and recjecting all forms of criticism will play this game for 40-60 hours max and never touch it again, moving onto the next IP in a couple of weeks.

100%

People are following a twitch meta, playing part of act 1, and then leaving a six hour steam review about how wonderful the game is.

Retention won't even last through early access, let alone seasonal content after the game comes out.

It's good for the studio they made significant revenue now, as without major revisions to core ideas the game will have shorter legs than Diablo 4

And if the devs do not realize that now and alienate me as a consumer (12 years btw), if they dont fix it relatively fast, i will just quit PoE 2 and 1 alltogether and spend my money elsewhere, all the massive respect i had for GGG is vanishing really fast.

99.9% of the people who are saying "Game is perfect dont change anything" will probably quit after the campaign, if not before it.

They dont realize the campaign isnt the game, its the introduction to the game.

I dont think anyone should even be allowed to post about the game until theyre in maps.

The maps are even worse, im in the endgame, 15-20 minutes to clear and you come with an empty bag, and that´s not even joking, sometimes you get one rare every 3 maps, 1 effin hour for 1 rare wich you gonna vendor because ofc it is trash.

Yeah it's unfortunate, but I expect PoE 2 to lose momentum and then I expect GGG to go back on their word and kill PoE 1 to save a drowning "too big to fail" PoE 2.

I very much hope I am wrong and both games continue to be serviced, but that's usually not how things go.

I don't think they will kill POE1. I think they will put it into maintenance mode so they can say they didn't kill it and you can play that style if you want, but all updates will be minimal

Yes, and so will 99.9% of those who want major changes, or complaining about the game's difficulty. It will even out after the spike, that's just how things go.

So... they'll go back on their word and effectively kill it?

I don't mean they'll shut it down overnight, but they will try to move toward sunset and one day "It is with heavy hearts that we blah blah blah, the passion of our community, blabh blah, but for the good of the future (tencent) we must..."
