So bringing numbers into a discussion about subjective taste is just futile. It doesn't belong. You like Pepsi, I like Coca Cola - am I "more right" than you, just because Coca Cola sells more? Of course not.

But what you are saying in this context is that my preference isn't good, it's just "popular", regardless of whether I, or other people, actually enjoy it. That's where we diverge. It's highly possible both things are true, both popular and good, and the different factor being the opposing viewpoint.

And I don't know who is the arbitrator in terms of "quality" in this context either. Wouldn't the public, generally speaking, set the market? I don't know the answer here tbh, but Im certainly not comfortable just stamping good vs bad based on emotions, and saying statistcal data points don't matter.

You're putting words in his mouth here. As usual

That's absolutely NOT what I'm saying. Did you read my first sentence? What I'm saying, is that the a game isn't necessarily better than a less popular game - and using numbers to "prove" that is futile. I will never categories a game as neither "good" or "bad" based on the amount of people playing it, because me categorizing a game as "god" or "bad" is based on my opinion - not other people's opinion.

If you find game X good, good for you. Play it. Enjoy it. If I find the same game bad, bad for me - I can't enjoy it. Why you need my acceptance or confirmation on your subjective view on a game is beyond me. Again: Enjoy whatever you want. Categorize anything you want as "good". Just don't expect me to agree.

I'm sure game X is good for you and a lot of other people. But I have to base my opinions on my experiences - not yours.

Well then we can agree finally.

If the premise is that "yeah the game is good apparently, just not my thing", versus "that game isn't good, it's just popular" then fine.

That's an interesting way to frame what was said because I'm pretty sure that's not what Phrazz said unless it is my misunderstanding. So, I think you might be disappointed; again.

You keep trying to get people to say something is good when they don't think it is good. If someone thinks a game is bad, then it is bad for them. The best you can hope for from that person is admitting that the game is good for other people.

This doesn't feel like a hard thing to wrap your head around. Good/Bad is a personal opinion with respect to games/food/movies/songs/(probably everything). Someone saying something is bad in no way takes away from someone else thinking that same thing is good. Both are right.
Thanks for all the fish!

Seriously, my self-esteem when it comes to my English is taking a HUGE hit every time I discuss with you, because either I'm totally unable to get my point across to you, or you're deliberately being obtuse.

I would never say "yeah the game is good apparently, just not my thing", because that would be me judging a game based on other people's opinion more than my own. Could I say "apparently a lot of people think that game is good, but I find it bad"? Sure. That would be me accepting and respecting that a lot of people think a game is good (which seems very important to you), while at the same judging the game based on my opinion.

I also want to thank you for removing (editing out) that last sentence of your post, because not only was it directly false (IMO), it was also a little bit triggering.

Nah, you're English is great, and even better than great if it is a second language. I was wondering if I somehow misunderstood what you wrote, hence my response to the same comment.
Thanks for all the fish!
I just realized a situation where good might be objective and not a matter of debate...

AD&D Good Alignment: Good implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of sentient beings. Good characters make personal sacrifices to help others.

But that's a different kind of good; good vs evil rather than good vs bad. I'm sure someone that is an English major or a novelist like Charan will soon smack me down :)
Thanks for all the fish!

On a random side note, it sometimes happens that two people think in such a different way that they cannot comprehend each other. Happened to me in another hobby forum, where we both genuinely tried, with great effort, to discuss an idea between each other, and we both left defeated.

At first, I thought he was on LSD, but we exchanged dozens of long messages over the course of almost two weeks... so I guess he had a huge supply :D
