PoE time has passed

Maybe PoE 2 is the last hope for the series, maybe it's already doomed by D4. I hear D4 will be huge.

What are your thoughts?

Where do you hear that? Why do you expect a company that has not produced a well-received game in 5 years to produce one now, when they are busy fending off sexual harassment charges in court? Blizzard is dead, believing that D4 will be any competition whatsoever is ridiculous. I would have my money rather on Last Epoch, but that game is still in its baby shoes.

I'm sure the crowd that liked D3 will probably like D4. Although D3 wasn't my cup of tea, it was pretty popular in terms of numbers.

D3 didn't kill POE though. And POE has a massive amount of content, and a release cycle that D3 never competed with. I would be surprised if D4 took out POE. GGG might have to cut back though. We shall see.
Thanks for all the fish!

D3 was popular on released, cuz of the hype and D2s legacy.
But after the vanilla flopp, even if they fixed some issues in Reaper. Reaper expansion still sold way, way less. That is why they scrapped the second expansion.
Now they still had alot of players, mostly cuz its a famous brand by a famous company and its way easier to get into.
With that said, D3 had nothing going for it content-wise. So people that came back and played usually only did so for a week. (And a full week is being very generous)

But yeah, D4 wont kill PoE. The games will be massively different in terms of depth and probably content aswell. Blizzard hasn't exactly been known for being generous with lots of new content.
Doubt D4 will be any different.

pretty much that. And it all became worse as the public opinion of blizz deteriorated further.
I'm personally hoping D4 succeeds. Not because I think I'll like it, since the chances of it going back to a D2 like game is probably 0%, but because it filled a void in the gaming population.

There is absolutely a group of people playing POE now that were D3 diehard players and thought D3 was a good game. D3 quit putting out content, and the shallow nature of the game was extremely exposed, even to the diehards.

That group wants POE to become D3-like. You can feel it in the suggestions and the tone. D4 can't come fast enough to potentially (hopefully) pull them back. The casual crowd needs a game. POE was never going to be that game short of GGG dropping all sense of direction that they had at the start. D3 was that game. D4 hopefully will be that game again. Then we can all be happy and live happily ever after. Okay maybe not that, but still.
Thanks for all the fish!

You forgot Last Epoch. LE is a great game with better balance, better drops, better crafting, better skill trees, already better endgame

If it's so much better, why is "nobody" playing it? Hell, even declining while PoE is "dying"?

The world is a strange place.

If you read what i wrote you could easily understand that Last Epoch is in BETA phase.

I did read. But if the game has "better balance, better drops, better crafting, better skill trees, already better endgame", wouldn't people play it (even if it's in BETA), at least now, when PoE is "dead"?
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

People said that to some extent with Grim Dawn and Wolcen aswell.
Don't get me wrong games like that can be fun. But mostly to play a little here and there.
But there are far less people that actually make such games their go 2 ARPG and sink 2000+ hours into it.

Now I haven't played Last Epoch. But I doubt its a PoE killer. People are so dramatic, like they get a patch with some changes they don't like and they immediately announce that the game is destroyed, over, finito, worst shit ever.
All games have a life cycle and eventually drop numbers enough to be financially unfeasible or statistically meaningless.

Even the mighty WoW.

Suppose one could argue that having a game be reduced to mere thousands of players is not "dead" if you want to get technical.

GGG seems to be happy making their game more "Niche" and appealing to the power gamers and streamers.

Time will tell how that decision works out for them.

Maybe OP should try a different build once in a while.
~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

LE and Wolcen both know they need an endgame if they want to 'break through' into a certain phase of being 'a big deal'.

They're going to face the same challenge, at some point, that GGG face today. How do you design 'end game' content for the 4 hour per week player and the 40 hour per week player and make them both satisfied? (i.e. without the 40 hour player complaining they're bored and game's too easy and the 4 hour player claiming the game is too complicated, bloated, and hard)
