Chris says 4.0 will take on Diablo 4

I think D3 is overall better than this as it is
The gameplay is more smooth theres 0 desyn (yes i still have desync sometimes) everything just looks better There is no way this would even be close to D4 unless D4 looked like D2 or 4.0 was like D3+ and i dont see that happening |

The current replies seem to misunderstand the quote.
Blizzard makes polished games, no doubt about it. D3 is mechanically and functionally polished. It's just a shit game. PoE is not polished, but it's a great game. PoE won't compete with D4 on a technical level, it would be stupid to think that it would. It also doesn't need to to compete with D4 technically to compete for players. To say that PoE is becoming stale or whatever is a subjective comment that isn't supported by the data that we've seen. Synthesis is unlikely to be remembered as a positive league but numbers wise the game has seen nothing but growth for a long term, in terms of lining up with the cycle of league releases. Since we know almost nothing about D4 it's probably a whimsical claim to make, but that's because we know nothing about D4, not because PoE can't be expected to continue growing into the future. " d3 is nowhere near a shit game, speak for yourself. its near perfect imo, it lacks character build options and steady stream of content, other than that, its perfect in all aspects. gameplay is fun, graphics, animations, combat flow, effects, hell, even loot system is ok actually. poe sucks in every aspect except character building options and content delievering, i supported the game solely for this reasons. other than that game looks like early 2000 arpg d2 trash clone with tons of outdated rudimental anti-fun mechanics. dead game bring back 3.13 Last edited by Tainted_Fate#2799 on May 23, 2019, 4:11:57 AM

Are you joking, right?
With 1. Poe servers going south stable once or twice per day destroying all instances and portals? 2. Quality issues and trade issues. 3. Forced content. 4. Optimization close to nonexistant? 5. And betrayal-like bugs-freezez plaguing entire game for literally month or more from being introduced, and stays same not patched out, all those like things? No way. Its all about quality of gaming experience, you know. For an end user. |

" So D3 is near perfect, except that it has no character building and no content? Good to know. I log in to D3 most seasons and play for the couple of hours that it provides, and then log off again. It's a well made shell for a non-existent game. I have no idea what your point actually is, I don't know what you are trying to say. You're saying that the game with actual gameplay is shit, and the game that controls well but has no gameplay is good. Is that correct? Shitting on PoE seems to be a newly acquired taste for some; before the last couple of leagues they could barely do wrong. I don't think the game is perfect but the background of the game hasn't changed from when it was good, so I can only come to believe that people are basing their most recent opinions on transient game states. " " d3 has limited character building customization options, but it has at least ~70 overall different builds of different classes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rsdu24OOQP4) that cover huge amount of different playstyles (some of them are absolutely unique), many of which you cant even find in path of exile. so i would say it gives some options to players to find the playstyle they enjoy, so you cant strictly say that there is no character building variety. for example, if you are witch doctor, you can go classic pet builds (gargantuans or fetishes), you can go unique complex caster jade harvester build (path of exile doesnt even have mechanics to create complex builds like jade harvester), you can go pure caster with spirit barrage build, you can go for stationary caster (firebats), i mean you see, it covers most of desirable playstyles. my point is d3 is extremely good game and, i would say, the main problem is updating and content adding problem. dont talk about shitting on poe because people accurately talk about huge problems that this game has, what you are doing right now is playing fool, if you dont have enough mental capabilities to understand adult people talking its your own problem, work with it. dead game bring back 3.13 Last edited by Tainted_Fate#2799 on May 23, 2019, 6:33:28 AM

"70 builds.. yeah.. right. You think that every class in D3 has 12 fully functioning, differently playing builds? Got news for you; they don't. In fact, some builds using entirely different sets still play identically. To claim that this is the case you would have to resort to extreme pedantry as to what constitutes a different build. More importantly, even if there were 70 builds, which there aren't (atleast not that function anywhere near equivalently to the point of not hugely slowing down your progression), they are the same exact 70 builds that have been around since the rebalancing of sets. Like I said, Ive played a large amount of D3, including the beginning of most of the seasons. I've played pretty much every build in the game. I had done that somewhere back near season 5 or 6, with the exception of necro. It's now season 17. You can make the argument that D3 is an extremely good game for a very short time. I would even agree with you. It's a husk. It's like they developed the engine and made a little story.. and then moved on and left a skeleton crew to tweak numbers so that people come back hyped for a day, before they realise nothing actually changed. |

" Diablo 4(or a new game engine at least in the Diablo world) being in the works is pretty obvious imo, job postings, what seems to be intentional leaks(Con backlash desperation) and the fact that a major new blizz title reveal makes chronological sense, it's been silent for years. What have they been up to since Reaper of Souls launched back in 2014? D:Immortal is only partial a Blizz product in cooperation with Netease. Even before blizzcon and the catastrophic announcement last year they told us, ''evil things take longer'' and would not be revealed at the show, obviously referring to ''The'' main project. Discontinued project hades and the current project fenris(d4) makes sense imo according to the jason schreier article. |

As for PoE 4.0 vs D4, well Diablo 4 is likely to be at least 2-3 years away. A Blizzcon reveal could happen this year but an actual playable product won't be until earliest late 2021. Path of exile could probably find the time for a 5.0 update before D4 is a living reality for the consumers(Unless Chris has some inside info, about D4 becoming relevant soon in time).
Will Path of exile take on D4? Well if D4 has an amazing new engine/gfx and ditched the cartoon/wow influence(according to the article, '' dark D2-like in a modern package '') it would draw the attention of the nostalgic oldtimer for sure, perhaps on that qualification alone start dominating if the rest of the game just is decent enough. But both games could still coexist. More importantly the gameplay of D4. We don't know anything so it's pure speculation at this point, however i dobut they're gonna do the ''set itemization'' given how many balance issues they had with it, complains etc. People expecting a D3 in new cloths might be in for a surprise imo, i honestly believe they're going all in ''full revenge'' so GGG is wise to prepare accordingly. I suppose in the end it depends on the kind of devs they hired for the job, another Jay Wilson type or a knowledgeable dev with previous arpg experience? One thing for sure is that blizz gonna try to compete on a stay relevant and monetize the hell out of it with updates, the only reason D3 didn't and bend the knee is because the game has been abandoned, thus not prioritized. Another dangerous thing that many overlook is if Blizz would deliver the game with an addictive and working PvP mode, this alone could harm Path of exile quite a bit as many probably have been thirsty for PvP in an arpg environment since the glorious D2 bnet days. I highly doubt PKing is coming back in these casual times but some kind of arena or larger environment mode with perhaps their own unique rewards and itemization balancing.
