In order to take-on Diablo 4, PoE is going to have to aim for the super-casual masses. After all, you're not really competing if you're targeting a whole different audience. Blizzard has also said they don't consider Diablo and PoE to be competing since they're both focussed in different directions.

PoE "taking on" Diablo is like Skyrim "taking on" Fable, or GTA "taking on" Mario Kart. In other words it's not happening unless one or the other specifically tries to take-over the other's territory; the only territory Diablo has which PoE does not is the super-casual masses - so if Chris is doggedly going to pursue that idea to the point of disregarding everything else it can only mean disaster for PoE.

the game is already super casual.. what are you saying?

play league 1-3 weeks, you did your chores, reached your goals, done.. flashback if there's any and wait for the next league.

the game can't be more casual than currently is.. unless there's a vision that everyone is playing 12 hours plus every single day..

For whatever reason, PoE players think they are playing chess and PoE is a Dark Souls-type game gameplay wise to boot.

Meanwhile D3 is much harder and more demanding on a gameplay level, lol. Yet, they continue to flame it as "casual" while they mash their 1 travel skill and their 1 Damage skill. Hell, if you play Righteous Fire, you dont even have to do that much. For all the shit D3 gets, its harder to play than PoE is. You actually have to use all your buttons on your bar.

I'll never understand this fixation on "casual." If you wanna be truthful, the entire Arpg genre is casual and barely a step above clicker heroes. This is a game genre you play when you are tired of actually competing in games like CS:Go, LoL, Quake, Starcraft, hell, even games like Dark Souls. You play something like PoE so you can mindlessly grind away with zero skill and zero thought process behind it.

The only "hardcore" thing about any game in this genre is your time invested. But that does not make some game more "hardcore" than the next. There are people who put in 20 hours a day grinding D3 paragon. There are poeple who put in 20 hours a day grinding damn mobile games. PoE is not a hardcore game. Its as casual as any other game.

a non - supporter who spent around 1000$ since 2013 in stashes,some boxes and mtx....everyone doesn't need to show "how good" they are with useless tags under their name ...dude.

I don't know where u got that D4 is coming out in 2020. From what I heard so far it will be either 2021 or 2022

PoE can take on Diablo 4 because Blizzard can't even take on Diablo 4.

current poe cant even take on diablo 3 actually. if d3 would provide steady stream of content, updates, reworks, poe would be dead. not even talking about d4. but, as we know, activision blizzard barely can make a good game nowadays.
