Chris says 4.0 will take on Diablo 4

it's cool to see he's confident but if the engine doesn't get an overhaul i would doubt this 7 years old game could compete with any serious future arpg ; not gonna lie.
especially since this time around, they can pick and chose which parts of PoE to steal from and improve upon. it's also interesting to note that tencent owns shares in both GGG and Blizzard so they benefit either way, heh. either way, competition is good. it should be good for the game in the long run. well, what do i think about poe vs d4?
path of exile is right here and you can play this game and its high quality in terms of character building and generally the game is very complex. i dont think that blizzard has the balls to do such complexity in d4 because they want to appeal to as broader audience as possible to, obviously, make more money. just look at their last game - overwatch, fucking braindead Q-spamming shooter for children. of course, their game will be polished, but i doubt it will have much depths. and, btw, its not that obvious when d4 will be released - 2021? 2022? BUT Path of Exile is technically outdated game. Really graphics are garbage. Animations like running, hitting, casting (with some exceptions) are the worst ive ever saw. Optimisation is non-existent. And there are some problems with QoL and some ideological problems. For example, this game has 10 acts of fucking boring-ass storyline that you obliged to do on every new character - this is outdated rudimental approach. So, PoE has serious problems as a game, but there is nothing like it on the market and i dont believe d4 will change the situation because blizzard are not those old blizzard that did d2, wow vanilla, wc3 etc. dead game

If Diablo 4 gets the trading right I am going to be taking a looooooong break from PoE.

Wasnt expecting this to rise from the ashes, but the topic itself still is relevant.
PoE needs new content (not just leagues), a character model revamp, game engine tweaks, and a quite a number of performance and graphic updates. Not to mention qol that people have been asking for. Also the bugs and balancing with each new league....well they leave something to be desired. Hopefully the mere existence of some competition will help get the creative juices flowing. I started playing GD. What a refresher! Feels like the classical days of ARPG where immersion and atmosphere waere paramount.
Now waiting for a sale on last epoch. |

Path of exile surpassed any other arpg EVER created back around its act 4 update, and if not then long since. There is NOTHING anywhere that comes even close. Blizzard could spend 5 years, and any amount of resources and it is extremely doubtful they could ever come within a hundred miles of touching PoE. Why is this? Blizzard long ago became the mcdonalds of gaming. Their customer base is so broad that they are essentially trapped in creating games for the lowest common denominator. They are perpetual victims of there own success and anything they do which goes even remotely outside this low bar is resisted by a large portion of there community. They may make more money simply by the size of their existing community, but the product is not going to be 1/10th as good as POE was years ago.
If PoE has anything to worry about it will be certain games coming out of Korea in the next few years. Lost ark, and perhaps lineage TL. These games are probably more MMO but they look to be similar to ARPG in gameplay. These have more potential to directly compete with PoE. As it is path of exile is a game that can and probably will be played indefinatley. They could stop development now, and it would still be relevant in 20 years. A game like diablo2 could have still been relevant had its development been continued long enough to support more persistence and a larger feature set even a fraction of what PoE currently has. However the diablo 2 era was a far more primitive time with less technological sophistication. |

every single time it's the same.. poe players triggered to death shitting all over the place to activision-blizzard but you don't see or you ignore tencentGGG decisions?
the new HO that would have been a great addition to keep farming old content into another cash grab.. servers are still taking dumps with lags, crashes and desyncs, this is one of the many things I could point out.. however there's good things like patch fixes and qol changes more than actiblizz did for d3 for years. diablo has been out of the picture for years now.. I don't jump on the hype train like most of you here.. if they are going to 'take' on d4 then they would need to stop reading paint memes on reddit and making more content stable for the game.. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Poe 0.2/10 Returning to poe in 3.27: ATROCIOUS game performance, 5/10 league and I apprently missed the loot back in the last league. The more things change the more they stay the same.. |

What makes you think there will be a diablo 4 before 2025? This is blizzard your talking about.Sure they might announce it at blizzcon. Dont get me wrong I plan on playing it when/if it comes out. The problem is blizzard is only after money not good games or game updates so I dont think i play all that long.
