Chris says 4.0 will take on Diablo 4

So it appears Chris (and presumably the team) thinks that 4.0 will be able to take on Diablo's next generation arpg.

While I applaud him for setting a high goal, I dont see how this is even remotely possible, without massive engine, modeling, and graphical upgrades. Not to mention server stability and performance that these "upgrades" will require.

I think a more nuanced statement of expectations would have been more reasonable. PoE is old, its unlikely it will compete with Diablo 4 from a nuts and bolts point of view, and tbh the core gameplay is getting stale after all these years.

I hope 4.0 (for it's own sake) has some incredible changes that live up to the claim of jumping into the next generation fight.

I dont want to seem pessimistic here, but man that claim and pre'hype for 4.0 seems dubious.

Have you even seen the character models in this game or their run and attack animations etc? it looks like epic dog shit. How on earth can this take on Diablo 4?

Blizzard and most AAA developers make their money by selling highly polished looking games with top notch graphics. The end result is the gameplay is dog shit.

In poe we have the opposite highly polished satisfying gameplay like no other game has but dog shit graphics where character models are concerned

Amazingly POE graphics on the whole is very good.

The problem with POE competing against Diablo 4 is POE character models and animations are complete dog shit.

Impressively they reworked animations in melee combat in Legion which is a welcome, the melee combat actually looks closer to a AAA title now.

Folks who run companies in any industry will have knowledge of the future. If chris says diablo 4 is being worked on, then it's being worked on. Source?

More on topic: this game doesn't need a change of art style but it could do with a graphical update. Which it has been doing. Lighting was a great example.

I'd like to see higher resolution textures, as well as particle effects tweaked to stand out from each other a bit.



It's so difficult to perform graphical overhauls on textures and models overtime. If you don't change all textures and resolutions at once, things will stand out. Go install any morrowind/skyrim/oblivion weapon or armor mod without upgrading the games textures and you'll experience what I mean.

4.0 would be a great opportunity for a graphical overhaul on textures and models. Everything all at once. Why? Because they could adopt a new standard for their modeling and texture conversions, and any new models for future additions will have a nicer workflow.

Diablo 3 and Diablo 2 looked already outdated when they were released so your statement doesn't make much sense.
