Chris says 4.0 will take on Diablo 4

4. Blizzard is huge compared to PoE (have you ever let the D3 end credits scroll by? It's even longer than many movie credits list) and that size distances the devs from the player base and doesn't foster any sense that they care about player feedback (we are huge and this is what we produce and "you will like it" and play it. PERIOD!). GGG hasn't reached that size and impersonal feeling yet and I hope never does. Always stay lean and mean GGG and keep a close rapport with the player base. ALWAYS!

Chris and Jonathan on Baeclast is the perfect example of what makes GGG different from Blizz. The actual devs will talk shop about their vision for the game, what they will hold firm on, what they are willing to change, etc.

Blizzard has incompetent PR folks and the entire team is literally afraid of speaking to their communities for fear of their words being misconstrued as "promises." So instead of just taking a firm stance that players may not agree with but may ultimately respect, they don't take a stance on anything. They regularly ignore all player feedback from their PTRs and then make hamfisted attempts at balance.

One thing I think is unnecessary though is the apologies in the patch notes this time around: "There was a miscommunication regarding the number of weapon-specific support gems when discussed on Baeclast earlier, and for that we apologise." You're not doing yourself or the community any favours by letting these vitriol-spewing toddlers believe they're entitled to an apology for every slip of the tongue, especially when the devs were willing to chat in such an open way.

Tbh I think GGG is using apologies directly or maybe even subconsciously to deflect from criticism.

For example, Chris apologized for the Synthesis development cycle, planning, and implementation.

He gets praised for not allowing "crunch" in his company, but then proceeds to launch a league that was both not ready, and also poorly conceived. How is that acceptable? It isnt, but he makes a post, and people fall all over themselves about how humble and honest he is. It's kinda gross especially after the Tencent sellout.

I think we too easily give GGG a pass because the developers are often accessible and friendly. You can be those and still perform poorly in your function. (Which is what happend in the last league)

Woah there. I enjoyed synthesis content way more than I was betrayal or bestiary. Breach definitely wins though.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.

Those were his words(not exact) in his "apology" post.

Arpg and mmo fans are small fringe loyalists. New gen kids won't touch them, and large gaming companies know that, which is why we get phone games. Arpgs and mmos can only work under smaller companies, because the return expectations aren't as big. Blizzard doesn't make games for 'a bunch of old dudes who grew up on D2 and still love the grind', and they don't do passion projects.

Blizzard won't make D4 unless they know it's going to pull in enough people to call it a success by their standards. A classic arpg won't pull in the money or players, so it would have to be streamlined for your average dumb dumb and the kids who aren't willing to play grindy shit.

PoE isn't perfect, but it's the only great old school arpg throwback, and D4 isn't going to change that.

If you think Legion didn't have its share of crunch...I have all the time and admiration in the world for Chris, but that stuff about not running his company that way? Half hope, half damage control. Crunch time is just part of it. They launch at 4am NZ time of a Saturday...

I guess my point was dont go on vacation to Tahiti with new found millions, drop the ball on development, then make a post about how sorry not sorry you were because you wont crunch, and then expect people to hand out virtual hugs and head to the mtx shop.

All Chris needs to do is say "D4 was that mobile game, right?"
so pretty much zero bar there to overcome.

But seriously I too am dying to know where reality and expectations meet when 4.0 is revealed.

That one korean RPG with zooming around and shit looked nice.
Need to do some heavy lifting to not let this one drop on their feet.

You're pretty ignorant and happy to show it with some wild assumptions but your heart's in the right place. Give or take.

Enjoy 3.7. I know despite all your griping you probably will. :)

Oh I will continue to play and enjoy PoE, dont get it twisted.

But don't expect me to buy tickets to the apology tour if GGG drops the ball here and there. I will call it out as I see it, admittedly with a bit of hyperbole. Happy 3.7!

Oh man you almost gave me nostalgia for a game i played over 14 years.
PoE is going strong and it's the best successor Diablo could hope for.
Sure there are builds, people, years and memories i miss, but..show must go on...keep walking and live in the present.
I've had and i'm having great time in PoE too!

On Diablo4, it's too early to comment. Given the last 8 years of Blizzard (in games i cared of from them), i am neither excited nor looking forward to news.
They didn't let Diablo grow...GGG has done a great job in making PoE shine in the darkness they left.

My heart will always be in slaying monsters, theorycrafting, looting and chatting with random strangers.
Wherever i may roam...

He only said what he said about "crunch" because of that article about Epic games; it became the flavour of the week for gaming sites so of course he was asked to comment. It wasn't like he was making some big stand, and players never actually gave a fuck in the first place.

I would think there would be a big difference between "crunch time at GGG for a new release" and "crunch time all the time at Epic because Fortnite needs new shit every single day." The point of the story was that the office environment at Epic is absolutely insane, but by all accounts they also get compensated way above others in the industry because of it.
Diablo 4 leak confirmed. UHD graphics, VR support.

People seem vexed about Tencent and GGG

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetEase

Some of NetEase's games include the Westward Journey series (Fantasy Westward Journey, Westward Journey Online II, Fantasy Westward Journey II, and New Westward Journey Online II), as well as other games, such as Tianxia III, Heroes of Tang Dynasty Zero and Ghost II.

* Developing Diablo Immortal for iOS and Android

I wonder what Diablo Immoral: Extreme Idle edition will impact on D4 development which unlike many here seem to think has had zero information available.

Literally nothing.

On the other hand Blizzard Diablo 3 lead designer said in an interview about Diablo, he told the original Diablo creator who said he would of designed D3 differently but still praised it's ease of partying. "F*** THAT LOSER" in weird rant. He might of stopped working D3 years ago but he's still at Blizzard working on that supposed unannounced ARPG you guys are seeming to hope is D4. Which for all fans sake I hope is not.
