Path Of Exile vs, Diablo 3
Love the game.
characters/items look boring as hell though. Invasion - No Sacrifice No Glory

Few of my HC characters died because I made mistakes.
Two were killed by desync. I decided to build one that can survive few seconds of desync. He died today in loading screen. I look at my lv 74 char pic, default league and really don't know what to do. Played a lot every day since OB and this is the first day that I spend on forum. When I started doing that with D3, I knew it is over. Overall, PoE is much better game than D3, if we decide to put them both in same, let's say ARPG category. Unfortunately, "open beta" obviously means struggling with issues that have nothing to do with gameplay or game design, and while D3 was boring and repetitive, PoE is tragically unstable. I will not play D3 anymore, because I don't want to, and I will probably stop playing PoE because it is frustrating. There is no joy in fearing every loading screen from now on, but there is no fun in farming Act 3 for AH. PoE > D3 as an idea. In reality both games are unplayable, and both dev teams are "working on it": players want customization and content from Blizzard - Blizz gives them BoA; from GGG, I guess people want tech issues fixed - Races, spiders and knives delievered. So,if you believe devs, eventually D3 will be "Blizzard quality" (sic) and PoE will be 1.00, and both games will be awesome, but some people say that things do not work that way, that D3 can not be fixed, and that PoE will always be unstable indie product. D3, PoE, sons - I am disappoint. Last edited by AROMEZ#7125 on Mar 1, 2013, 1:12:16 PM

IMO, D3 did 2 things right. 1) Fluid combat engine. 2) Instanced loot.
I really wish the devs would quit being so hard-nosed and claiming that FFA loot promotes a "cutthroat" atmosphere. It doesn't. It just makes players(not the game) diminish other players' play experience. If anything, they could have a separate cutthroat league where you are partied with whatever random people enter the zone at the same time and the loot is FFA and there is free PvP. That would be cutthroat. The current loot drop system is not. Overall, PoE > D3 because D3 has a million problems with it(core problems, like itemization) and seems to discourage partying with other people in ways that makes grouping even with friends not fun. |

" Thats made me lol. "D3 better, but I dont compare" :) Well I dont say PoE's story is exceptional but its way more darker than diablo3. I must admit I had to much hope in D3 before the launch and I found the storyline not just boring but quite stupid. I love those who do not know how to live, except by going under, for they are those who cross over. Last edited by Blasio#5922 on Apr 11, 2013, 1:11:48 PM

" Mega Dittos on all the above. I'll just add I'm not playing PoE as much as I did last spring and thru summer/fall 2012, however I'm not playing D3 at all since about 2 months post launch. I see no reason to return to D3 as of this post and see little hope for it. This game however I continue to return to. Yes, POE has issues that bug me but none as massive as the abomination and disappointment D3 turned out to be. I'd love to party with random folks more but due to the way loot works it isn't worth the annoyance and pain. It takes too much time to scan for sockets on dropped gear and having to worry about it being snagged by the twitch kiddies just ruins party play for me. The game complicates this by dropping far more loot with bigger parties. I spend too much time fukin with loot than fighting mobs. Course getting to the point, I'm still playing this after I discovered PoE back in early Spring 2012. Despite my whine. | |
" Try looking at the dev's stance from a different perspective. They are gamers, just like you, and just like you, they have their own personal tastes. Like a lot of the best entertainment products out there they created the game they wanted to play. From this perspective they're not going out of their way to make your life miserable because they're trying to "be tougher than everyone else" - they just happen to prefer a game that gives them a certain feeling. It's fair enough that you don't like that particular play style but it's clear that, to them and many of their core community, it does achieve whatever game design goal they had in mind (e.g. promotes a 'cutthroat' atmosphere). So given that both viewpoints are equally valid - you (and many others) don't like the loot system; they (and many others) do - it only seems fair and reasonable that the ultimate design decision should fall to them. As so many others have said, it would be better for us all - even those who hate FFA loot (or whatever you want to call the current system) - to support developers who want to make a product that stays true to the original design intent of its creators. It's how we avoid products that try to appeal to EVERYONE and end up pleasing no one. IGN: ScrubcoreRulezBitch

" Nobody cares about commercial success bro. It's like saying Justin Bieber is better than most musical artists because he sold more copies. We all know Bieber is trash, Your argument is worthless. IGN: TimeForSpectralThrow / iLikeShockNova

Things that are better about Diablo 3: Pretty much everything on a technical level. Better netcode (oh god, the desync), better graphics, fewer bugs.
Things that are better about Path of Exile: Pretty much everything on a design level. Much more interesting skill system. Better items. Better currency system. Better difficulty curve. Better end game (maps vs grinding act 3 over and over). Exception: there is one design element that Diablo 3 gets better, and that's looting. The actual loot is better in PoE, but acquiring that loot? I'm sorry but "cutthroat" looting is just irritating. It isn't fun. Instanced loot is much better. |

I could really give two shits about Diablo 3. Blizzard burned their bridges with me right around the 4.1 patch of WoW and after that I refuse to use their products ever again.
Now PoE vs PSO2, that is a meaty discussion. They are both great games for a lot of different reasons, and some of those reasons happen to overlap. IGN : Reamus
