Why do some players lose their passion for PoE ?

The same reason people lose their passion for anything. You can only throw so many hours at something before you have to step back and take a break.
Look at how many hours Krip put into PoE, is it really surprising that he needs a break? Any game that I can put over a thousand hours into, that is a pretty sound investment right there. Sometimes you just have to take a step back, and come back later.
There is only so much to do in the game, after all.

This. The what I think of as the Novelty factor wears off.

I'd say it even includes time spent doing research on mechanics which takes away time spent making builds.I prefer to learn stuff through playing and maybe asking the odd question here and there which takes longer but prolongs the playtime.I actually avoid most well known builds and if I do decide to do one I make it the way I think it will work without looking up builds.

Basically people who want to be the best from the get go will burn out quicker.Wanting 6L straight away that kind of thing.I prefer to experience the feeling of progression and skipping content is not the way to do it.

The XP penalty on death is my main turn off from this game. What's the point of playing this game if the game mechanics is preventing you from progressing?

Got bored. I realized the best way to gather real wealth was to flip. I absolutely hate flipping and I'm not greedy enough to make currency that way.

Used to farm for 8 hours a day doing dom runs with godly mf. 157 IIQ/512 IIR.

I really don't feel like playing an economy simulator to gather real wealth. Also, I've got tons of legacy IIQ items on and I really don't think legacy items are fair at all. I'd rather all players have the same chance to get the same uniques.

I have played a little more than an hour since SotV came out. Probably going to never play again. No, you guys aren't getting my stuff.

git gud bro
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Main reason being once you hit mid 70s levelling is more of a chore than a pleasure, at least for me. It just becomes a massive grind-fest that takes no-lifer amounts of effort to get through the 80s.

End game MUST have more than just mapping...give me SOMETHING cool and unique to work towards or something to do.

Also, everyone has said it but...currency drop rates are still stupid. I play A LOT and I hardly ever get exalts. I don't want to trade currencies for high level ones half my time gaming, either.

It is planned for the future and you wont have maps system anymore, but will be replaced with something much better, that @GGG keeps as secret for now. They have mentioned this more than once :).
GGG thank you for all the great things you are doing. You have combined every element of all other great Rpg's and joined them together as one Diamond, that will shine Forever.

This is coming straight from the heart <3

"Path of Exile’s economy is the most important element of the game to us."

This might be one of the reasons.
I just poke around now.
Only play a few hours a week.
Getting currency and not even wondering what I'm going to do with it.
The only reason I'm posting is that I've had a few drinks and .................
