Why do some players lose their passion for PoE ?
I think, after reading a fair portion of this thread. You can focus in on a couple major issues people are having.
#1. Desync. I didn't care for Chris' explanation that its mostly my fault some how, and they will tweak the desync. If what happens to me in POE happened to me in ANY other game id be on the phone with my ISP and filling out an RMA on my custom PC. But its this game, by design. This should be priority #2 for them imo...ill get to what needs immediate fixing. #2 Itemization: Notice all the grind complaints? Its an ARPG game, grind is the name of the game...so why are people complaining? Well...just like what happened in D3, and was the fault of the AH...people play and play and play and play...their rewards? 1/50th of the orbs (used as currency) needed to buy one upgrade. OR 1/100th the amount of orbs needed to craft. OR a few uniques that are level 1 or low level items, or meant for another build. Itemization is based around a protected economy of drops. Meaning Forced trading. This is what sunk D3 folks, I don't care what anyone says otherwise, most left because they were unable to get upgrades playing, something D2 did fantastically btw. When Chris said SLF would splinter the game, its because everyone and their mother would play it, leaving the hardcores and traders left in a ghost town...they don't want that...they are the hardcore cut throat traders..this would wreck THEIR game. Best take note on this,ROS is catering DIRECTLY at the self found loot crowd. #3 Forced Trading Some people love to trade, they can have fun I just about any type of game with trading. Some love killing mosters by themselves or with buddies and finding the loot in true ARPG form...they right now have no where to go in this game. You have to pay the troll toll to get the loot In this game. Better be familiar with prices, make a mistake and one of the few mega traders running this game will ignore you for lowballing. The time needed to trade is far too great. People hate the AH concept because of D3, and because in that game you could go MONTHS without a self found upgrade...exactly like POE. If you want trading to be the foundation of the game...put a damn AH in game. Quit pretending there arnt tons of 3rd party AH's bypassing your vision and also making RMT all the more easy. We could argue minor complaints...or play the mega-supporter denial game where "oh its all just the natural cycle of getting bored" *said in monotone brainwashed voice. Fact is. Three major issues plague this game. If you want a hardcore niche game GGG...you are about to see what exactly that means...think pay your pay check and letting some buddies go over at GGG. People are fleeing this game. Desync isn't something you should be shrugging off with an attitude. Self found loot players are the majority, and its not that hard to implement. Most play games for the skinner box continual loot found improvements not the joy of trading. If you are going to force trading, make it so that those who dislike it don't need to spend more time doing it than playing, as is the current system Im sure this wont get read but anyone with half a brain can clearly see what GGG's priorities should be....less they want to fade into obscurity. Its been over a year since beta...the above issues shouldn't be here still...you only get one shot with most gamers and a major milestone of Steam and critical acclaim has been wasted on ego decisions. That interview he did with Athene was a big ole slap in the face to me. Major issues shrugged off as minor things that need a slight tweak...lol..ok... Cant wait for ROS and im having a blast in breviks arpg both will be self found games. Neither has desync like POE (MH has some issues but its nothing like POE's Guinness book of world records style desync) Needless to say...your fans and money are currently leaving the game for others that do give them a reasonable option as to how to play. I love this game on paper, and for a brief period mid act1 on normal to early act 3 merci this game is epic...but it just falls apart...I and others don't need to put up with these archaic and ego based issues. Im out of builds I want to try, I never have found a decent loot item, I spend a years worth of orbs on crafting and one unique for one build...what else is there for me to do...die to desync in more hilarious ways? see how many non viable builds I can make? just for try, for see and for know Last edited by CapitalPunishment#0335 on Jan 13, 2014, 9:54:17 PM

" I have to say, good points. Bolded part is what made me shed a tear. So much lack of logic there by GGG, if I can't even play = I don't give a crap about the atmosphere, which isn't great to be honest, the atmosphere in PoE sucks I believe. |

allow me to throw my hat into the worthless opinion ring with my own wild conjecture.
The theorycraft runs out. Either you acquire all the items you want and need and you can theorycraft endlessly (impossible unless you trade, trade, trade btw) or you end up with a small selection of uber items and the theorycraft ends once you've found the most effective build combination with those. The best and rarest build-enabler items are high level uniques and the best builds I've found exploit broken interactions between unique item mods. Once you have no reasonable means to acquire new, super rare build-enabling uniques and you've used the ones you have to their maximum that's it, the game's pretty much over. Taking an occasional extended break is a good idea, the progress the game makes on a regular basis is very refreshing. |

" That's one of the things I liked about PoE. The ability to create many diverse and even wonky builds. All my theorycrafting dried up after I realized what it takes to net those "build-enabling items." I would have to use or create an "un-fun" or uninteresting build to spend hours on end obtain the currency I'd need to fully realize my other builds. So far, I haven't been able to realize any of my builds... My dreams are crushed and I no longer have the desire to play... PoE feels very "real," doesn't it? "Nope, it is GGG's game/they choose to let you play/can at any moment prohibit you from playing" ~ Mazul
"GGG definitely has the power to 'tell' me how to play it. In the end, the only real choice I, you, we have is, is whether we play or not at all." ~ CharanJaydemyr |

"Yeah, The particular item for me is aegis aurora, or (even more impossible) a staff with big physical and spell damage mods to make a Cast on Kill build that's more effective than what I can do with facebreakers. I've realized an 'OP' build and it's ability to clear every bit of the game content with ease removes challenge from the game to the point where I'm just staring at loot tables until endgame +1000 hours and it's impossible for me to anticipate being able to make any improvement because of the way the game's RNG drops are and the nature of uniques being BiS, not for their base stats but because of the extra affixes/suffixes that don't exist on rares. I think the end-game is highly unrewarding right now. You spend currency to roll maps, but the loot and exp aren't any better than just running Piety or Dominus. When I realized I got more exp from a Piety run than a lvl 67-68 map and that the loot was better too my will to push a character past the lvl 80 mark just withered like an old man's saggy ... earlobes. I don't understand how people have the motivation to continue after that point, and for what? Bragging rights? I'm not impressed by sado-masochism myself, and the endgame seems that pointless to me that it's actually equivalent to self-punishment. To grind pointlessly, fruitlessly for hours just to get that next notch on the level bar is not worth it to me. Not when the loot's so bad and all i'm doing is collecting rares to trade for chaos, with no upgrades even though I'm using lvl 35 items. That's not fun. What's fun to me is the theorycraft, and what's ironic is that the best build I've found is actually very simple. Forget the lightning warp, flicker strike, discharge acrobatics ranger that was badass incarnate up until lvl 70 or so when I ran out of 2Handed weapons decent enough to keep her going. No, the best thing I've found is a facebreaker build with infernal blow and that's pretty much it. It sucks that the game does that work for me, and with other builds as well, by simply providing the most effective build options through uniques. While I appreciate the options that uniques provide with their item-exclusive attributes I think they overall severely weaken the appeal that could exist in the loot. Rares need a chance to generate wilder affixes, by removing thorns and light radius and reduced attribute requirement that not a single person playing the game finds useful and replacing them with chances to roll unique-type augments like frenzy charge on kill or +damage or something else unusual for that item type. PoE's item stats become too much like D3's where you're just comparing red and green numbers, life-resistances-%armor type. The rares in this game are simply outdone by uniques and don't even have a chance at competing with them except for the most rare and extreme instances. It's a disservice to how interesting the loot could be in this game, to just have them all be stat-sheets with only uniques offering something with greater benefit than that. Rares just aren't good enough, and they don't even have a chance to be, that's a problem that really limits theorycraft in my opinion. Either construct your build with uniques that give your build something it can get from nowhere else and thus will never change, or make a generic build with RMT'd perfect rares. Boo. uuurns. |

" ![]() Many lewt.
Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? |

" +1 Because for me it is NOT like " Oh Yeah, let`s play Imperial Gardens, with all the Corners and Stuff that causes Desync even more, if I get desynced back to a bunch of hard Hitting Mobs that kill me I am not mad because the Atmosphere is sooooo nice! " Same for Particles and Skill Effects. For me it is NOT like " Oh Yeah, I can`t see S**t because my Incinerate + *insert random X Skill Effects from Party Members* drop fps even on a good Pc sometimes so low that if I die from the Lag it can cause won`t make me mad because it looks soooooo nice. Plus the Atmosphere makes up for it, which btw. is totally overlayed by the flashy Skilleffects that I can`t turn off. I don`t play the Game for Looks or Atmosphere or even the Story. |

RNG and endgame. Running maps are not rewarding enough.
