Why do some players lose their passion for PoE ?

Just a side note.. I'm actually proud to see that a lot of people who are commenting on this thread DO UNDERSTAND that having frustrating mechanics and a frustrating experience in general, doesn't equal a "hardcore" game.

I said it before (back when they removed MoC and added maps) and i'll said it again. End-game based on RNG (maps) is just bad on so many levels. Or this is was the best way to cover up lacking end-game content?

I am all for RNG in ARPG's, but I will totally agree here.

Maps should not be RNG based. Period. Non-discussion.

These are 'the game' at a character point, and not having them literally prevents you playing the game. No excuse, no discussion. Maps as 'drops' are not acceptable.

Mapworks. Torchlight 2. Vendor in the 'Eternal Labratory' that sold maps.

The end.

It's impossible to run out of maps, sometimes you just need to settle for the lower level ones. You can also easily buy maps, just not from an NPC. Also what is endgame content in ARPGs?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Well, I ran out of maps. I don't know what to say to get that across any clearer. I ran all the maps I had, and ran out. Didn't get more.

Got some 66's back now, trying to make them into higher ones.

I could buy maps from players, if I could afford them.

Player pricing on maps is way out of my league. A few chaos is all you say? Yeah, I don't have that. Honestly, I don't have it. 1ex for maps I'll actually get xp from? That's insane. I can't afford it, but even still 1 exalted for a half an hour's game time? That's freaking insane. Absolutely bat-shit bonkers.

I never mentioned 'end-game' but it's different for each, depending. Here, it's maps.

If you run out of maps, buy a bunch of 70-71's for what? A chaos each tops? Rebuild a map pool.

There's a reason I'm still running 68 maps on my lvl 84 ranger, run a bazillion 66's, run a bazillion 67's, etc, build your map pool to a semi-sustainable level.
Many lewt.
Much desync.
Such rewarding.
Wow.
According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew?
Agreed on the RNG thing. It's fair for our progress to take a hit if we stuff up, but the result of playing well should never be a net loss (e.g. full clearing a 100%+ quantity map without dying and not getting at least a an equal level map in return). I would never have bothered with levels 70+ if it weren't for generous souls who do bargain map runs.

I am getting very pissed with this interview. Its like Chris is slapping everybody in the face who wants just to play for fun.

A typical successful game in 2013 generated revenues of at least $200+ million. All we hear about GGG's revenue is $2.2M plus $220k. I don't see how it's making a profit. GGG has been in existence since 2006 and PoE is their only game. I bet that GGG hasn't broken even.

The majority of players want to have some fun; they don't have 30 hours per week to grind to death. When Chris finally realizes that GGG cannot survive with only hardcore RMTERS, it'll be too late.

Perhaps you didn't read my post entirely.

I cannot afford 'a chaos each'.

Perhaps this is from having a successful build off the bat, from years of arpg experience and this is bad, because it did not allow me to accumulate mounds of wealth needed to support myself at level 84/85, with failed characters. Buying maps for 'a chaos each'....

You know how many 'chaos' I have? Here:

That is ALL the chaos I have. Now what? I had almost 30 of them at one point, but most were used up running the maps I had, trying to get more item quantity...

Trade? I got a shop up. No one is buying, and almost all things in it are 'only a chaos'.

I have grinded almost a full level from 84-(four 'blocks' from 85), doing nothing but Dominus/Piety to try and get some maps back.

Perhaps, just perhaps, map drops should not be RNG.

It looks like the addictive trait D2 had, cannot be found anymore: D2 vs PoE

IMO, some of the money should be used to make an extensive research about psychology of the player. This, or just keep hoarding money for a GGG's second game where everything would be fixed and addictive.

Psychology in poe : http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/578022

So why do they lose their passion? Hard to say..

It's actually not that hard.

1. The rewards for time played at the higher levels are not good enough to keep us motivated to play.
(Item progression in no where near what it should be to sustain long play enthusiasm)
2. There is no real reason to play past a few maps as there is no level 100 conclusion to PoE.
(We need a level 100 pardon to our character and a cinematic of leaving
Wraeclast as a pardoned free person)
3. Desync is very tiring after you have experienced many deaths from it.
4. Crafting is not good (too much RNG gambling)
Also not enough jewellers and fusings orbs to try much socket/linking crafting.
5. The grind for better quality gear is tiresome past about level 60
6. Burnout from any or all of the above.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat:

I love this game, it's great and I had my dopamine highs. But for now, unable to sustain a high lvl map pool for some time as solo seems unrewarding. Grinding for hours on end on piety runs, map runs, dominus runs became lack luster except for chaos recipes + fuses that added in my wealth.

I'll just take a break for the meantime from standard/long term leagues and do the races =) (which is still fun btw)
Maps, to be lucky to get into the best Exp Zones as a Solo Player is just not my Cup of Tea.
Allmost all of my Chars are in their 70s,a few 80 because the Grind after lvl 80 without highend Maps is dissapointing.
Better NON Map grinding Zones would keep me playing.
