" This is wrong, the updated new system will be implemented in both PoE1 and PoE2. 6 linked items will be transformed into just 2 socket items (armor) and 4 sockets (2h weapons and bows). Both campaigns connect in end game, so its impossible to have two different systems, they are overhauling changing everything in the skill system and tree, so its going to be updated in both campaigns. |

I was at first a bit worried about removing sockets of items.
But now... If balanced correctly i think this will be great. Before this was a very messy part of the game. I also think this will open up alot more use for using more skills. Like using 1 single target skill, 1 for aoe and a movement skill that actually can deal dmg now. You will even be able to have a six socketed curse on hit skill to use vs some foes. Personally, I really want to trust that GGG will make some transition so that we do not lose anything.
They already made POE 2 a new campaign so that STD people will not lose any items and nobody loses MTX. What I would suggest they do is: 1. All 6L become unusable until... 2. All gems are removed from the 6L item. 3. Vendoring the 6L item with a single skill gem (any level or corruption) will give you the same item with new 4.0 sockets and a 6L gem equivalent for the one you vendored. I feel this is reasonable and a proper solution. Edit: that might be too much. I wonder if they'll make 6 socketing gems more difficult than it is to currently 6 socket an item. 6 socketing isn't anywhere near as bad as 6 linking, so with links going away I could see them making it more difficult to 6 socket a gem.
