So we will lose our 6-links with 4.0? :'(

My prediction is all active skill gems in your gear or inventory will convert to 6L. Gems will stay where they are, gear not equippable. All the old gear will have a hidden tag so you can vendor it for the new version. Really, anytime there is a change like this GGG overcompensates players. Most the player base will play the challenge league anyways.
RIP many budget builds, huh?
No more 6L underused unique/rare items on dirt cheap prices...unless its damn offmeta skill.
Honestly, from all i saw/heard only 2 things i liked: shapeshifting in 4.0 and maybe the new Atlas in 3.9. IDK what ppl like on new graphics from what ggg showed us - it seems like a different game without the sweet graphics PoE has and 2nd campaign feels like i may not enjoy PoE like im used to cuz i will have to choose which one to play and im 110% sure they wont be equal. Hope they will change my mind somehow tho, they often do that from 2nd-3rd try.
Slow down for a minute to enjoy the beauty around us.
Pretty sure the solution "tell the players to suck it" is still on the table.

Too much side effects. More simple would be:
1) all socketed items give you one special currency depending on the number of linked sockets;
2) all gems are unsocketed ans store in a temporary tab;
3) items are transformed into the newformat;
4) you can trade one special currency + one gem to a socketed gem with the same number of linked sockets than the original item;
5) socket your gem in the item and end of story.

Maybe GGG will give more special currency for the burden.
as said before in this thread tabula could get "socketed gems can have 5 support" or something similiar...

they also said gem exp can be transfered...

would it be bad if all gems in standard become 6 links?
there will be stronger gems as we currently have anyways...

ftfy.

Not that the message isn't identical, of course.

Jonathan explained that you now have to find 6L skill gems instead of armours.

Yes, which is going to be an RNG nightmare that the farm bots are going to love to pieces. Probably Uber Lab farmers will find more of them than the rest of us casuals.
I suspect most 6link gems will be crafted, not droped (just like it is now), which won't affect bots.
Uber Lab will most definitely not be the No.1 farming spot for this (why should it?). The 2.0 campaign will not have a lab. Ascension wil be aquired differently there.

What I don't know in POE 2.0:
Will be every active gem be capable to store 2-5 support gems in it even if it is not in a item socket but is stored in inventory or stash?
On Exilecon, all support gems dropped out of the active gem upon placing it in the inventory.

I guess you can do the low-budget-off-meta skill. And budget builds likely won't need 9 6links. Making a build that needs only one 6L will reduce linking cost by over 80%. Budget aint dead :)
I like the new graphics, felt really dark, gritty and overall nice. Btw some of those graphics will come to the old campaign, too. Lioneyes will get a rework in 3.9 and it looks nice.
I get the fear that one campaign will be superior. But GGG does too. Chris mentioned in several panels that the campaigns need to be as equal as possible regarding length etc. If they get that right, it will be just more options for the player, which is nice. And a small difference will not stop me from picking the one I prefer. I look forward to not play through the same campaign another 10 times :)
Let tomorrow be about solutions. Today is about vengeance.

It was mentioned somewhere that the changes to where ascension would be rewarded would occur prior to the release of PoE 2.0?

Note: I'm asking. My information is from someone that is friends with an ExileCon attendee. But I've seen a similar statement on the forum.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

To help make 6 linked armour feel more valuable and worth the time right up until path of exile 2 comes out I think update 4.0 should convert every skill gem slotted into a 6 link armour into a 6 link gem!

Think about that. 6 link armours will be like quasi fated connections prophecies during the update 4.0 update.

edit: But only armour worn on a character during the update. That'll sell more character slots!
