You've got to add the fact that HC in D3 pretty much isn't HC anymore. Paragon levels are account wide, so when you lose a character you lose his gear only, and in the current state of the game you can gather T1-T2 gear in like a day of playing. You can also choose your own difficulty. The fact that KingKongor is playing hardcore in D3 now says a lot about how not hardcore it is.
Staying in t1-t2 is like staying in lv70 maps in PoE; it is nothing noteworthy neither in PoE nor D3.

That's not true, and for many reasons. Just take those two : 1/ there is no "t5-t6" gated content, items or whatever in D3. That's not the case in PoE. Playing T1-T2 is not like playing 70 maps vs. t6 = 78 maps. It's playing 78 maps but it's just going faster and it's easier 2/ T5-T6 can be played for 2 reasons only : XP (which doesn't really matter once you hit a certain level and if you're not doing the XP race like Alkaizer), and fun. If you're only about the gear, which is the only end game in D3 since release, you better play a lower torment difficulty, since you'll find the same items but you'll kill things much faster. Again, that's not the case in PoE.

This dynamic has changed a bit with the 2.05 patch in recently. Kadala now drops Torment only (including Set) items as well, and they've increased the number of shards you get as you farm higher torments, so farming T6 makes sense for more players now.

I know that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's the same content with the same rewards available, no matter what difficulty you play. So even in 2.0.5, t1-t2 = lvl 70 maps and t5-t6 = higher level maps is still not true.

T6 is far more difficult than lv78 maps. I would say T4 is more in line with lv78 maps. If you are only about rewards, then PoE is maximized by flipping, hosting shop, arranging lotteries and only playing lv77-78 maps (which you trade for, of course). In D3, playing T1-T4 rifts would be optimal for farming gear depending on your own gear level.
If you play arpgs to get some form of enjoyment from mechanical challenge, then you will want to play at as high difficulty as you can manage. This is reason enough to do T5-T6 if you can handle it even if it means that you will get less legendaries per hour.
From mechanical difficulty standpoint, lv70 maps is like T1-T2, it is a faceroll that you can easily gear for (even self-found in PoE).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending D3 - but isn't getting more shards for higher torments = different rewards for different content? Or have I misunderstood you?

I don't think it is : you're playing the same content, you're getting more of the same rewards (but you're going slower), and you can also drop the same items. But in the end I don't think comparing Torments levels and Maps levels is very helpful anyway, since it's two really different things.

You can't go that far into the comparison, there is no direct relation between maps levels in PoE and Torments levels in D3. They are in the end two different things, from two very different games.

There is currently a post on the D3 forums where a guy ran approximately the same amount of T1 rifts as T6 rifts, and received nearly the same amount of legendaries from them. He also only received one Torment only set and it dropped during a T1 run.
Blizzard still needs to tweak the risk/reward formula. But what you say is ideally how it should be.

If you've played both a lot, you get an idea of how difficult they are in comparison to each other. It is subjective of course.

Many people on the PoE forums want a game that isnt based on trading and casino mechanics and doesnt have desync as a feature. So its a good place to talk about D3. Most complaints against it are either false or applies just aswell to poe.
Obviously, if you want trading D3 will suck for you.
But the itemization is great, crafting is much more rewarding than in poe and you dont have to trade to ever get close to perfect gear. The drop rates are great.
The skill system is fantastic. You dont have to trade or be lucky to use the skill you like. You can try a different skill or build entierly without having to level some gem or trade.
Its based around opportunity cost and combining skills to match your playstyle. The combat is much more interesting as you will have more than one skill to use.
You can actually play all the content without having to be very lucky or trade.
As someone said earlier, poe is for planning and D3 is for playing. The only really great thing about poe that you cant find in D3 is the skilltree, and you can download an app for that. So play D3 while at the computer and play poe while you are taking a dump. Best of both worlds.
The itemization is great? Surely you jest.
