Played D3:RoS since release till now, heres the results!

For me the only thing D3 has on PoE is playing with friends is far more fun on D3 than PoE. With PoE you have to be at the same skill level to really enjoy each other's company. D3's casual nature makes it easier for a group of friends to pick up a and play, can't really do that with PoE.
I don't know, this post strikes me as "curious". So you played D3:RoS "straight since release", and after what must have been dozens of hours you conclude that one shouldn't waste their money on it? It sounds more like you had a lot of fun and then burnt out playing it.

I haven't given RoS a chance, because I put my money where my mouth is (I felt ripped off by Blizzard and said they would get no money from me anymore), and I think D3 ruined the whole franchise, but threads like these have a strong hypocritical vibe.

Of course PoE is the better game, in spite of its own issues. The one-eyed is king among the blind.

Well, D3 has a lot of legendary items, but most are filler. They don't even have anything unique about most of them. Just a tad bit higher mainstat and vitality. In PoE a unique is a unique item. Shitty or not. It has something that makes it unique apart from a rare.

This one problem here would keep me away from D3 no matter what they ever do to fix it.

He probably played it over 100 hours.

I'd say D3 is a fine game. It's definitely more arcadey and extremely shallow compared to PoE. That said it has great gear progression at the start and provides some fun times(especially if you play with people you know). It's fast paced and extremely smooth. Say what you will about D3, it's beyond optimized and a breath of fresh air for anyone who lags in PoE.

The actual endgame is quite shallow though and itemization has not changed much since release. All builds rely on crit dmg, crit chance and elemental damage to boost their DPS. Using a weapon as the basis of all damage is also quite silly. The fact that the expansion straigtup just increased all the numbers was not impressive(all previous equipment was made useless).

I still think it provided enough hours of entertainment for what it is. I expect to play it again when the next expansion comes out.

Hey!

The only thing D3 has over PoE, is a smooth gameplay experience, except when you open your inventory, or a friend logs on, or a clan mate identifies 10+ legendaries in chat, or you are fighting on the Bridge of Korsikk. But other than that, smooth. Not really any noticeable desync or rubberbanding, and fast and satisfying skills.

but everyone says D3 desyncs as well POE isnt the only game is it that has such terrible net code and desync issues...other games like d3 desync just as bad...right?
I disagree. I think D3 is definitely worth the money if you like ARPG's. I think the smooth gameplay of D3 is being very understated. It feels like night and day compared to PoE, and after a recent bought of D3 I have found that PoE is painfully laggy and sluggish. Each game has their benefits and weaknesses. GGG does a great job. I think their constant updates are what keeps PoE fresh more than anything. When you put in some time with PoE you soon realize that a lot of the complexity starts to fade away. You can get a good amount of entertainment from both D3 and PoE and IMO if you like this genre of games you owe it to yourself to try out D3:ROS.
Here we go with another D3 vs POE thread...

...different games cater to different types of people.

That being said, i dont want anything from D3 in POE at least not the many things i left it for.

It is because I invested hundreds of hours, that I make the recommendation to not pick up the game. You think these forums are bad? Read D3s forums. The amount of feedback, and as of late, seething disdain for Blizzard does not illicit a response unless it's to a pro D3 thread. And you have to actually dig to find a positive thread now.

And yes it was fun at first. And the gameplay is fun. But once again, there is no real player choice, and coupled with an even more lackluster amount of items, there is no depth. Everyone needs Crit chance, crit damage, and +ele damage. And even sadder yet, is they believe that 'seasons' will be an amazing addition. Recently some season only legendarys were datamined and wow, out of about 30+ legendary items, only 6 or 7 had legendary affixes on them that changed how you can play the game/class.

Take a look at the new and improved Marvel Heroes. Brevik (part of the original Bliz North) is on that team, and it is like a true D2 successor. It even has runes. And it is fun to play, I just love finding new gear not only for the stats but also for the aesthetics.

So, sorry to come off as hypocritical, that is not my stance. Burnt out of D3? Not because I got all the gear I wanted, but because of the ever growing disparity between the community and the company. The fact that every piece of feedback to truly make D3 a great game is walked around or completely stepped over is atrocious. Of course you don't pay them anything beyond the shelf price, but they really do have a reputation to gain back, not uphold. They really do have the means, and the need to be more involved than they are. Games these days in the F2P model, or indie model, have way more interaction and communication between player, and developer, and as a result make great games in a lot of cases.
I love pie.
Well u started it OP u bugger so i may as well come clean.

Yes i have been playing D3 , Ironicaly seems like u and i have a very simmilar time frame in witch we will be returning to PoE.

I actualy had a MUCH better time playing D3 this time around than the other time's iv gone back to it. I enjoyed the basic concept of loot 2.0 it was ok , no whare near as good as POE itemization but that's a discustion for another time.

I did have fun with the big crit's . always fun to see 20 million damage on screen , for a short time then it's mehh get out of my way and i turn that off.

Character builds to me wher very basic , however solid. U could make a character play out preeety much how u wanted to so that was a plus.

build enabeling loot was farmable from bountys , i did not like this concept at first. I still don't but it did make it fast and easy to switch build style so over all i say it was a ok idea.

The overall gameplay was basicaly unchanged , smack the crap out of shit till it dies and run around ..... nothing really new or spectacular , but somehow satisfiying .

Shit blew up !!! rooms got destroyed and dead bodys evreywhare this way still good .

The viloin music in act 5 was nice when it came on at the titel screen it reminded me of D2 start up music .... almost ;)=

overall i was about as happey with it as i could be it was fun , not diablo 2 , but fun .

But then my power went out and i DC'ed . acording to my bud my character stayed in game for what we figure was about 40 secounds. I died

Now hear is the interesting thing for me . I just can not find a reason to re roll . i am 100 % NOT motivated to re roll my character or even roll a diffrent guy, it's all the same . Time to come back to PoE and roll a new guy im sure i will have fun with , if not ill roll again. Mabey i will go have some pew pew boom fun in D3 in a few years again but till then it's time to play a game with some meat and potato's , and fishing . POE4LIFE

Just a sec let me grab a beer...@#*@ Ok how did I die this time

Learn the rules, it's the only way to exploit them.
Played RoS for about a week. My history with d3 in general was that I decided to skip on it at release, sensing that it was gonna be a mess and take some time for blizz to work on. After seeing the ad for RoS I decided "fuck it" ive waited long enuff, time to see what I think.

It was very fun at first. The engine is not only very polished, but also the aesthetic value (still does not compare to d1 in music and atmosphere tho). Also I was playing with a rl friend who had moved away a few years back that I don't get to see much.... so that could have been a part of it.

Then my friend went off to join the elder scrolls online (fuck that game) and immediately realized I had no motivation to play.

ARPG's usually revolve around doing the same shit over and over on harder difficulties. In d2 you had the uber trist and diablo + PVP and the builds and itemization that left you feeling each upgrade, even if you wee just doing the same boss runs over and over.

In poe the motivation is similar to d2, tons of builds and challenges (hard rolled maps and atziri), great itemization etc.

In diablo 3 reaching past torment 1 is fucking pointless as far as anything but bragging rights goes. Most of the upgrades you get after that will be shallow as fuck, just stacking more crit etc. I was thinking that I would have to at least try the game with each char.... but in the end I only did a fully fleshed out sorc and played a WD to like lvl 10......

TL;DR: good game, but cannot even approach poe in terms of greatness and depth. At least blizz is good at putting time into re-balancing and patching games, because this needs it, bad.
