My problem with poe.xyz and why do I think it fucked the economy

I entered this topic with high hopes: poe.xyz did accelerate the fucking of the economy. However, the method of fucking has nothing whatsoever to do with the OP's complaint. The problem is not the price of [insert item here], it's how ridiculously easy it is to look it up. Searchable buyouts are a cheat code for item valuation, making what should be a difficult minigame — item appraisal — into something where you just Google the answers. When it's so simple to be a savvy trader, it should come as no surprise to anyone when trading overtakes farming as the means of wealth acquisition for the typical player. PoE would be a better game if knowing what your items were worth required actual expertise.

And yet

There are games with brokers that have had stable economies for over a decade.

The ability to quickly look up an items value does not have a negative impact on a game. The only place brokers have a negative impact is on dedicated traders, who are better positioned to take advantage of the general populations inability to quickly identify an items true value.

The b/o prices for some items are just the prices that THOSE items don`t SELL FOR and people still believe that those are the fair prices for the items. The REAL PRICE of items is the price that the BUYER IS WILLING TO PAY !

How to manipulate market using poe.xyz ?

Say to your friends/Guild( meaning that you have a lot of friends/guildies playing poe.xyz) with soul takers that they use and don`t want to sell to post them on poe.xyz for 80 EX.Wait one month , meanwhile the rest sells for 40-50 ...
Some noob drops a Soul taker , checks poe.xyz ... "Oh wow , I`ll get 80 EX for this , better post it " ... he posts it lets say at 70 EX...the next noobs sees this...Same thing happens.

And? If someone will pay 70ex it is is still real price: The REAL PRICE of items is the price that the BUYER IS WILLING TO PAY !

Whoever said stability is desirable?
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
Common sense I guess.

Anybody who plays the market long term.

In a game or in real life.

I feel like there are some contradictions here..

1) POE.XYZ is making it EASIER to appraise an item (know its real value). We need to make it harder.

2) This game has become trade first instead of farm first (its easier to trade to build currency, it should be the other way)

The reason that trading is easier than farming to build currency is because it is HARD to know the real price of an item. (The more you know the value of an item over another person, the more currency you can build flipping it).

Having an efficient marketplace actually makes it harder to flip items than an inefficient marketplace.

Erm... so basically you want to "scam"/"ripoff" people who don't know the price? That is how you want to get "rich" in game?

I do.

Not that I matter, but you bet your ass I'd say this.

Quick and efficient! I'm here to play a vidja game! I'm here to kill monsters in an ARPG!

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here on what an item's value is based.

It's not actually based on it's stats, those influence it but they're not it's base. It's based on what other people pay for it.

And that is, and will always be as long as orbs can be traded, a single number that can be googled.

There's a reason why a vast majority of stock transactions these days are done by computers and not by humans. Because you don't need to carefully evaluate a thing's worth, that isn't the primary measure. You just need to know how much others are buying and selling it for.

You can't make item evaluation harder because said evalution has less to do with the actual item and more to do with other people. And GGG can't patch other people. They can at best influence them through patch notes about nerfs and buffs to change their behavior on singular items, but it's impossible to make widespread changes.

At best GGG can start obscuring or removing their APIs, disabling screenshots, removing the trade forums, sueing trade websites for something like trademark infringement to get them offline etc. All to make the very simple information of item evalution, how much others are paying and asking for it, as hard to get out as humanly possible. But once it's out it'll always be easily searchable and found.
