My problem with poe.xyz and why do I think it fucked the economy

Whoever paid 10ex for Thief's Torment has down syndrome.

YES!
Haven't read entire thread, but my opinion is that a Stable market is BORING. I like obfuscated trade because it adds another metagame.

I can perfectly understand that some people like this.

But then the game should not be balanced around trading, because the majority of players don't come here for an obfuscated PvP trading metagame.

Remove XYZ from the scene and see the player-base disappear.

And some commentators doens't seem to be aware that if you remove 'casuals' from this game (which this obfuscated trading concept would do), you essentially destroy trading & eternal/exalt crafting for the 'elite moguls'. There is no trading & crafting game, without hundreds of 'casuals' willing to sell you their eternals/exalts.

In my opinion POEs fucked up economy is the reason why poe.xyz exists in the first place. :)

i think XYZ is just better than watching people spam the trade channel or searching through every single new thread on the trading forums.

i also tried to explain to one guy in the trade channel yesterday that i'm not going to pay the going rate. what also matters is what it's worth to me.

it's sad that this reminds me of the auction house in d3 though.

Can only tell it from my own perspective:

1. In the beginning, all is shit.
You don't find anything you need, you have no currency whatsoever, and you regularly come across obstacles you can't overcome or have to zerg through...

2. Because of resisting the desire to craft, stacked up some orbs. Traded them all to chaos.
Hooray, now I have a little bit of money.
Enough to buy 5L chest and 250 DpS weapon, ready to finish camapign and play maps.
All money gone though.
And the bitter feeling I would have never achieved that step on my own.

3. Playing what feels like forever, maybe finding 1-2 items that are useful for my toon.
Maybe find ~20 items that look like they could sell for some chaos.
Random chat spamming only consumes time, and when I finally sell something, I always have the certainty I was lowballed.
Next step in gearing requires me to have ~1 ex per item at least.

4. Finally reaching ladder position. Now my shop thread actually attracts people because I appear "online" on poe.xyz.is.
A lot more sales, I can even dictate prices instead of having to accept whatever buyers throw at me.
I stack up a few more chaos.
Trading feels kinda ok now. But own item progression is still limited, I can't pay more than 1 ex per item, this is only enough for ok...ish items, not for "real upgrades"... and I have to buy maps to progress in leveling because I keep running out of them all the time.

5. Playing what feels like forever without any progress.
Next step in gearing requires me to have ~10 ex per item at least.
Feel like I will never get there, out of pure frustration, start yoloing currency on items. Leads nowhere.

6. Randomly stumbling over a Mon'tregul's. Sells for 15 ex. Crazy. Finally I can afford an item I like (in my case a "bringer of rain").

7. Playing what feels like forever without any progress.
Next step in gearing requires me to have ~50 ex at least.
Feel like I will never get there, out of pure frustration, start yoloing currency on items. Maybe I will make a 6-Link (no, I don't), maybe I yolo a 400 DpS weapon (no, I don't), maybe I chance a Soultaker or Ming's Heart (no, I don't).
Can trade a bit, but not anywhere near the possibility of aquiring next level items.
Playing maps costs more currency than I get out of it, leveling is so slow now I pretty much gave up on it, so... why should I play on?

---

While I really love the game, item progression is a pain in the butt!
It is so f...ing slow, random and expensive.

And when you finally make progress, it doesn't even feel rewarding, because you know it was just luck. Great.

Knowing what your character can do from the start of lvl 1 up to the end with no items and no money advantage and yet you still manage to beat the odds and get the items you want and reach the highest lvl. HMMMMMMMMMMMM! Sounds Rewarding for me.
PLEASE GGG I WANT MY GUILD WAR!
The problem is not getting to higher items/levels.

The problem is:
1) several times playing 20+ levels in a row without finding a single item useful for the character.
2) the huge steps you have to take in gear improvement through buying. It's like a wall you can't climb... Getting to your first 1-3 exalts without being able to trade... Getting to 50+ exalts...

(and you can 100% forget about improving without the buying, that's why I actually love poe.xyz)
