So frustrating that the same mistake is repeated in every D2 clone
The common factor in all your poor gaming experiences is you. The game shouldn't drop uniques like rares for a very good reason. Replay value.
With zero mf (0 iiq/iir) on alts i find random uniques appropriate to the level. On my main map grinder I have zero issue sustaining map spawns (currently 1.7 drop to use ratio). Sometimes the maps go down from optimal level but they do drop. They also drop in other specific places far more frequently once you figure out where. I haven't tested it yet in POE but in d2 you would purposely clear an entire game from start to finish to force a unique to drop. Since POE has opted to overload base items I don't know if you can use this to force a specific unique to drop. the tier/cascade model used in d2 caused a number of problems. The broken prng used was biased in such a way that the pachinko state required to hit the highest tier of gear was literally impossible to produce so statistically items that should have been one in a million were literally impossible without certain specific conditions. I haven't broken down POE's higher end drops but given their prevalence in trade chat I think it's safe to say they drop with a less biased cycle group. Combined with the chance orb method loot in POE is far superior to d2. d2 didn't have endgame items dropping on the starting zone randomly either. POE however did copy the base item to itemlevel matchups so controlling your drops is somewhat viable still. that was a nice internalism of the d2 cascade system that survived in this clone. It'll be better once all the base items have pairings with an equivalent unique. the game plays more like d2c than d2x The problem is really that every player expects every piece of loot to buff their current character to ungodly levels and yields no consideration to the alting effect. d2 was unique because finding specific gear could be done when you understood how drops worked. POE has followed that model in true faith for the most part. I for one applaud their mimicry and its execution. Though I wish I had something more to do with all these excess skill gems. |

The same "mistake" is the 3 difficulty questing to complete the game.

The most important thing was allready said:
The more high end items were available (by dupes and bots) to the majority of playerbase the MORE players played Diablo II. So high drop rates and the possibility "to get everything" you want in a managalbe time frame does NOT decrease life time of an ARPG - in contrast: better droprates (or dupe/bot possibilities) result in a longer game life. And from a economic point of view: For GGG 100 "casuals" playing the game for 100 hours each and investing 20$ each are a much much much better deal than 10 hardcore gamers playing the game for 1000 hours each and investing 50$ each. |

" I do respect your opinion, but I must state the obvious. You (the account of the original post) have no points, no challenges, no achievements and wait for it ..... zero characters. There is nothing wrong with being new to Path of Exile. The obvious point is that you have to actually play the game to get anything to drop, much less a unique. So... I do question what you are basing your opinion on. If you do play on another account, why are you making this post from this account? If you (or others reading this thread) want help in finding uniques, then just ask or look for previous posts on the topic. If your opinion (original poster) is based on what you have heard or read, than I suggest you give the game a good solid try before dismissing its item drop system. Until you get to the last difficulty, the items you find will be enough to keep.on going. Furthermore, if you do NOT over level your character but keep advancing so the game area and your character levels are close than you will likely find a few uniques by the time you finish act 3. The top tier end game uniques are tough to find. But what you will find with zero magic finding gear should carry you through level 50 to 60 with no.problems. PoE is a trading/social game with ARPG elements. If a game's main, most powerful feature is trading, then it should be called a trading game.

I agree that it is very unsatisfying playing for hours and hours and getting no usable or sell-able items.
I got pretty sick of farming for hours and not getting any good items. What made it worse is that there are people making stacks of exalts by spending a few hours a day on trade chat. I almost always reach a point where I can't progress any further because I never find any items that would improve my character. Last edited by Fatto#3963 on Jan 21, 2014, 5:20:30 AM
