Get rid of 1 Week Races

Need to make a suggestion thread to be able to down vote threads like these. This game was designed by hard core gamers with a player base that also contains hard core gamers. Telling people over the internet that they shouldn't be able to enjoy the game they want to play as much as they want is not only stupid, but also pointless.

If these players that are winning races are smart enough AND have the willpower to do races like these, I am also sure they are aware of the risks of sleep deprivation. It is a risk they are willing to take and you have no right to tell them they can't.
People in this thread can't fucking read.

I won't ever win ANY race. So I'm not QQ about not being able to win a 1 week race.

I also tend to forget that the internet is a really shitty place when you present an intelligent proposal.

Telling adults they can't stay up and play if they want to is pretty rich. Might as well go play Hello Kitty Online

It's not a matter of it being an "adult" or not. Google gaming deaths, in the last few years there are numerous cases where some gamer, adult or teenager both, have died because they went like 40+ hours without sleep and just constant gaming. At that point it's not a matter of "hey im an adult im gonna play dem gaimz for three days straight" as it becomes a matter of you risk killing yourself.

Plus, not everyone can "devote" playing 30+ hours in one stretch, in a race. It differs from the "marathon" example people like to point out, because in a marathon you sign up for it, and you all participate at the same time. A runner in a marathon doesn't worry about potentially not winning because he or she has to suddenly take a break from running to go work their 8 hour shift at their job, or go to class. The same should be for races, just because someone who has tons of free time shouldn't get a leg up compared to those that work, or have school.

This is crazy.. Sumone who devotes more time should have a advantage because there doing the work. I understand it sucks that some of us have to work while others can just game all day. Thats life tho, it isent fair. People die in there sleep every year too. I guess we shouldent do too much of that either ;]
I didn´t read the whole Thread, so pls have mercy if i write something someone has already written.

What about this: Races shouldn´t be about "How much time am i able to sacrifice". Races should be "Doing the best from a given time, so there is no no-life advantage".

Example: 1 Week Race. The Time a Charakter can compete is limited to 35 hours (7 Days a 5 Hours, vary as you like). Once the limit is reached, you can´t play further until the Race ends.

This way, it´s really a Race where efficiency is important, not a Endurance-Test.

No.

That is a 35 hour race, not a 1 week race.
How about adding a league that is open for certain periods of time each day.
Imagine a race that takes place each day for 3 hours from 3-6 p.m.(just an example).
I guess that idea is compareable to the Tour de France (or other cycling races) where you break your race up into stages.
You basically get ready each day to play for 3 hours and then the race pauses to continue the next day at the same time for the same amount of time. That race would then go on for this for a certain period of time for example a month long. That way people know what they are getting into and what time they have to invest before they sign up (thats already true at the moment) while providing the exact same amount of time for everyone.
People that arent that hardcore could just play the race for the time and watch where they end up in the end while more hardcore players could theorycraft during the downtimes to get the most optimal amount of progress out of those 3 hours a day.
The major downside for this format is that timezones influence when people have to play which gives an advantage for people that can play in the afternoon while other people might have the race go on during morning or night.
This could be fixed by breaking the races up into 3 (or more) races that only take place at different times of the day but other than that are completely identical so that you can still compare players from different regions (since the content and the time spent is the exact same).
Hardcore players could even take part in more than just 1 of the regional races if they want.

It would also make it easier to follow the race for people who dont like participating themselves.
Every day you could then look at who has gotten how far and how much progress he or she made during which stage. (thats optional since it might give too much insight into peoples strategies)

Now before every hardcore player gets mad at me let me just say that i dont want any of the current races to be removed. Simply give an alternative along the lines i described above and let people choose what they like best and what is considered the best display of playerskill/endurance.

If people decide that the current format is superior then the format i described wouldnt get many participants and GGG could remove it.

What do you guys think?

Edit: spelling and stuff

How about just cancel PoE because someone might play it too much and die?

Why promote a health hazard instead of a competition of skill, when there is absolutely no need?

OP is being quite disingenuous - if he really didn't care about not winning this post wouldnt exist since actual apathy would preclude making it in the first place.

IMO, he is unwilling or unable to put in the grind, and wants to flatten the field to make it more "fair" - "fair" in the modern context meaning dumbed down for mass consumption.

It's not someone else's problem that you don't like the 1 week format. Truly don't like it and honestly don't care? Don't play them, easy.

If you're really that altruistic, and concerned about other people's health so much, spend that time you would have spent "not caring" about the 1 week volunteering at a soup kitchen.

This thread is hilarious, WHY do you guys care about how much people play in 1 week or longer races? if you don't like them DON'T play them!! the long races are pretty much the only reason ill be playing this game for years to come, i love them. And about the account sharing thing, i don't think many people would share accounts on Hardcore, if i was sharing accounts with someone and they died on my char id be so pissed off! Id rather die by my own hands.

Also, if you follow the streams, most of the top 10 players don't share accounts at all, nugyien won the last one week race and he was streaming all of it so he can't have shared accounts.

So please stop crying and don't join 1 week+ races if you don't like them.

I don't find 3 hour races fun, but you don't see me whining about removing them so the rest of you cant have fun....

So many people in this thread who cant finish in top 20 i guess so they cry and try to ruin it for the rest of us, really pathetic to be honest. Play harder next time ok?

And about the long session gaming deaths, the people who die are idiots tbh, they play 60 hours straight WITHOUT EATING OR STRETCHING ETC! ofc they are gonna die -_- ive done lots of 50-80 hour sessions, just make sure to take breaks now and again and eat / drink regulary and its fine.
