Full Respec......
" the problem with this trend of thought is what actually happens. IF you realize that your build needed a respec, subconsciously you are already unhappy with the status quo. playing it with a less then optimal build is not as enjoyable and can eventually lead to shelving the game till the next passive wipe. this is the core of the problem. the KEY to F2P is to keep people playing. keeping them logging on night after night. if they shelve the game, they WILL find others to occupy their time and who's to say they will come back if they find a more enjoyable game or at least comparable? IMO having full respec helps the game in the long run because it keeps people playing. the biggest investment anyone can make online is time. money often matters little. it's the time we spend online that we care about. in a way, time invested is viewed as a more valuable currency then actual money. if you institute a system where the time invested becomes useless or even suboptimal then people will migrate away from this game. because they invested so much time into it they don't want to be the kid with the pointy hat in the corner. we spend time with our toon, we build up our reputations. we make our friendships. so we don't want our friends to think we are leeching by not having the optimal build. this is online gaming psychology. respec will allow us to test out the builds and be worthy of our time. otherwise, people will eventually migrate away from the game wither because they were waiting for another passive wipe, or they simply do not feel like grinding another 80 to 100 levels to fix a simple mistake they made 40 levels ago. |

" Yes, actually, it is that big of a deal, as Default League is the standard, and that is where the no full respec thing has to start. There are ways to readjust points if you want to, or anyone wants to. If you refuse to use what they have already provided, that is not my problem, nor is it GGG's issue to fix. |

" I would argue that HC is the standard because that's where everything is measured. If you die that's it. Softcore is where you can play free of those rules, experiment with less penalty, implement things like 1 free respec and still keep the mission statement the same. |

" You can argue that as much as you want, from what I've seen of GGG's design philosophy and what they've said, Default League is the standard, and everything else is designed to be harder than Default. There are no "easier" modifications for leagues out there, only harder ones. |

Didn't read the whole thread, sorry if i repeat someone's idea.
What about an option to regain the last spent talentpoints/or gain respec points, but you always lose the same amount of lvls. This should only work on Default-League, and should be unlocked after a month or so. Last edited by masterofmurder#0540 on Dec 22, 2012, 5:15:12 AM

" A major part of the experience in a game like this is leveling up your character. If full respecs are allowed, many people will start using certain builds to level up their characters and then switch over end game because it will be faster. D2 introduced a free respec system, once per difficulty, and that's exactly what people did. They chose certain skills or spent points on skills they didn't need later on to level faster. Also, it will make leveling up feel similar to D3's skill system and that would just be terrible. I don't think any arpg should let you change your entire build on the fly. It really does decrease the replayability of the game. Last edited by Iluvatar#4623 on Dec 22, 2012, 9:03:45 AM

In life - one does not retrain daily to suit their needs.
Regrets. GGG - Why you no?

" The biggest problem with this is that its very exploitable. I mean if there were a bunch of restictions on it like it was only for early in the game and if you don't use it right at that level its gone forever then maybe it wouldn't have a lot of impact on the game, however at that point it just becomes unncessary considering all of the respecs already available in the game. Beyond that it just open up exploits and cheapens the game. What seperates this game from others like D3 is that it takes thought to make your character and if you mess up really really bad then its time to start over and learn from your mistakes. Since joining this game I have made 2 characters that were decent but not good enough once they hit the end game. I accepted this as a learning experience and it won't happen again. Standard Forever

Why are people saying respecs are more like D3 when D2 had respecs for every difficulty? Isn't that the Mecca game that this is being based off?

" The respec credit and token system were added many years after LOD was released, and it did cheapen character development considerably IMO. |
