One thing I find funny is that people argue 'they dont want to re-play the game just to try a new build'. Yet really, the entire ARPG genre is built around replaying the game over, and over, and over, and over. So even if you got a full re-spec, you would still be replaying the game over and over anyways - just starting at level X instead of level 1.
I dunno, maybe it's because I find early-mid game to the the most enjoyable part of PoE - but I don't mind needing to start over to roll a completely new build, and if it's a matter of correcting mistakes - unless you have totally messed up your character, the orbs of regret / respec points available from quests are more than enough.

Respecs trivialize build rewards. A build that booms late game would be cheapened of the work if it just instantly started with an easy early game build then was switched late game to the new one.
I am completely against a full respec. The way it is now makes it plausible to respecc to some degree without making it feel like if you play a certain build early your hard work and effort isn't a complete waste of time.
Builds that go for the late game 'ownage' of sorts should be rewarded, not pushed aside only to be taken when its become 'easy' for it to work.
awsome post. ^ this.
Hey...is this thing on?

In the Q&A with kripp Chris said that he would rather stick with the current system and believes there are enough points given to change specs. He also said he would liek players to carfully allocate their points and be knoledgable going into the creation so that these would not be available.
While I agree with this, there is a couple cases where a full respec might be appropriate. For example: Once OB starts there is going to be a wipe. Everyone is not going to have a shared stash right? So obviously some specs are more efficient to level with than others. Lets say that you want to have a spec later in the game which enables you to farm better, but leveling with that spec is ridiculously inefficient compared to a different spec. In this case you would have to save or trade for great gear with varying levels to equip a NEW character that you have to RELEVEL going along that spec since it requires a great deal of point reallocation?
Maybe this is your intent, of that I am not sure but would it not be prudent to have the option for each character that is created to be awarded say like 1 full respec per difficulty cleared? or 1 full respec all difficulties are cleared? that way at least an end game change is available if the player wants it. Rather than having to relevel a character for the sake of farming/pvp etc. In theory you would level 2 characters to get the 1 desired result becuase not all end-game specs are easy to level with.
Am I completely off by asking this?
I think your example of using an easy leveling spec then switching to an endgame farming or pvp spec is exactly the reason why there should never be full respecs offered. If you want to full benefits of an optimized end game pvp build you should have to level AS THAT BUILD. You should not be able to essentially skip the entire character progression.
