No!
Unique names are something to strive for and part of the "vanity" sales theory GGG has. I want to have a name noone else can have and I'm sure the majority of players feels the same way. I know it sounds stupid, but if they changed it, and I was no longer able to have a unique name, I would seriously consider quitting.... This game is awesome, and I hate to say that I would ever quit, but I'm trying to stress just how important it is to me to have a unique name. What you're asking reminds me of what happens at work sometimes... I show up at 7am, setup, have been there working for 4 hours, then the electrician or plumber shows up around lunch time and expects me to stop what I'm doing and move my stuff all around etc, to accomodate them.... I'm like look man, the early bird gets the worm... you want the ideal work station location? Try not showing up at lunch time! I shouldnt have to suffer to accomodate someone else when I've been there all day and they're just showing up. In other words, if you snooze you lose. Rather than sitting here complaining on the forums about not getting the names you want, why don't you spend some time and try to be a little more imaginative. Put some thought into it and you'll get your own unique names. " Must be nice when your biggest concern in life is not getting the name you want in a video game huh? 99 problems -_- These kids these days have the attitude that the world owes them something and they'll try to get their own way one way or another. "The world is hard, change it!" It doesn't work that way, you need to adapt to the world, not the other way around. -_- Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it! " Because in your post you've presented it as your own problem. " I still fail to see the "problem" which you speak of. What does it matter if other people use xxx's in their names? |
|
" The problem is and has been for the entirety of this vacuous thread is that OP and those agreeing with him don't like that they can't have a particular name, so they want dev resources diverted from actual content to fix something entirely superficial. " The OP and people agreeing with him are probably self-entitled, spoiled children used to getting their own way when they whine and cry about things. I blame the parents. What happened to beating your kids? :o (j/k ofc) Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it!

" Because, as the community grows, eventually it will be the norm for people to have a random string before and/or after their name, to circumvent a problem that was addressed as early as the 1990's. Every game that Blizzard has made since (and including) Diablo 2 has used account names for identification (short of WoW, I'm not sure if that's changed) and they're not alone. Steam uses it (although a bit more subtly) for ever game that has Steamworks multiplayer. Star Trek Online does it. There are plenty more, but I'm not trying to make an argument ad populum. My point isn't that it's popular to do it, my point is that it has tangible benefits with no down sides. Just a few of the benefits include the ability to keep track of your friends easier, especially if they make new characters. The fact that account names are static means it's impossible to impersonate people. It immidiately eliminates all the name whining - which I've been aoccused of, regardless of the fact I freely admit I'd use x's and therefor am unaffected by whether I had gotten Player or not. And what are the downsides? Well, you can easily be identified even if you're trying to, say, get away from friends. But in a F2P game (unless it's against the TOS?) you can just make a new account. If that is against the TOS, then it might be worth implementing a feature to prevent people from seeing if an account is online (they need to search for a character name and account). Or just make an "appear offline" feature (which would be useful regardless of if account names are used). But other than that downside, I really can't think of any. My reason for citing other games simply shows that this type of model not only works, but has come to replace the model that we're being presented with here. " Must be nice when your biggest concern in life is not getting the name you want in a video game huh? 99 problems -_-[/quote] well, since I don't get off on trolling and insulting people for innocent suggestions on a game in BETA, I may as well recommend a simple suggestion. Too funny some people get their delicate feelings hurt over a suggestion in a VIDEO GAME. I have a GREAT life I wouldn't trade for the world!!! maybe that's why I can let people make suggestions with out insulting them :) Enjoy your day young man. Hopefully your life will turn around someday and you'll learn to just IGNORE opinions you disagree with :) Bye. I have nothing more to add to this lol...conversation. I try not to feed immature trolls anymore than need be :) Take care. Last edited by JerzeyDevil13#0071 on Jan 21, 2013, 2:24:02 PM
