What does people have against Steam? Is there any valid reason or is just that they don't like that Valve is behind it? I mean, it make game management really easy and brings some other small features.

DRM especially. You no longer really own your games, it's more like a rental service.

It's far from a rental service. You purchase a license to use software. It's more in line with commercial software tools like AutoCAD or RSLogix but you don't need to pay thousands of dollars a year to get the next update.

It's still like renting, you rent indefinitely until valve is out of business or until they decide to remove your access. Not like it's going to happen anytime soon but Valve still hold the switch for the access to your games.

Valve is going to want a cut of any money GGG makes if the game is on Steam. I don't think that idea sits well with GGG at this point.
this is not the question
you can counter that argument just by saying :
Steam wants 20% of MTX $
but steam brings 400% more players
which increase mtx sales by 200%
in the end GGG still makes more money
Won't happen like that. Many people already know about this game, and those that don't aren't going to be spending much cash on MTX. I've been on Steam since day 1, and just because a game goes on Steam doesn't mean the player base quadruples. Lots of games just rot.
everything I have read about indie devs getting on steam seems to give the impression it is exactly like that. Theres a reason why so many indie devs are clamoring to get on steam even though many of them sell there games on their own sites or elsewhere. more exposure = more money plain and simple. Believe it or not there are quite a bit of people that will refuse to play your game if it isn't on steam and there are many gamers who don't look at gaming websites every day or search for games like this. Its just hard to imagine that getting on steam will lead to anything other than more money for GGG.

well PoE is already always online so steams DRM is honestly irrelevant in this case.

Or,
/boot computer
/load OS for computer
/load POE client
Steam loads with PC OS currently and auto logs in. Opening a game just requires you to right click on the steam icon. I even have shortcuts on my desktop that I click on for steam games, there really is no difference between a game on steam and your computer. No digging is required and I doubt the steam OS will be any less efficient.
I mean steam saves your CD key, configuration files, and saves. It's a great system and this is coming from a guy who absolutely hated steam a few years ago. Also what adds are you talking about? You don't even see the steam client to run a game. Just click on the desktop shortcut and bam game is running.
I'm just old fashioned. Steam to me feels like buying a game from a store, but you can only play the game if you run it through their systems first. Why?

Because Steam is more than a game store, it's a platform. It's like buying a game for xbox, it won't play on a playstation.

I didn't know this was an issue. I mean GGG has the same power over your access to it's game even if you'd paid for a supporters package.

Exactly. and even if we look at retail games, the "rental" systems still there, its just even more absurd, we don't own our N64 game copies, technically, we just have a licence.
Anyway, steam its and awesome client, but since this game its not really "new" and we can see that didn't really needed Steam, i don't see it like a must ...
