I think PoE is running out of time. Here's why:

I'm not so sure, a lot of the community have reacted quite harshly to stuff like RMAH and how skills will work etc. I have a feeling these people are fairly serious and D3 has quite possibly taken a fair hit to how many people will end up getting it.

I mean with all the threads on various sites kinda shitting on it, it's going to deter some of the potential new players as well.

Like I said, you're delusional. D3 is going to amazing, because blizzard doesn't settle for anything less. Take S2 for example, took forever to come out - the game is nothing short of perfect. The players keep coming up with new and exciting tactics, the game is just about flawless. Nothing d3 has shown off hasn't been amazing. Also people have played d3 on panels, the 4 people in the world thing is simply not true.

If you read the entire post you would of seen the positive nature toward PoE.

Really though you're so incredibility tainted if you think D3 won't be better than d2. People doubted S2, and since its release Starcraft 1 has become extinct. Blizzard games go up in quality, not down sir.

What you consider better, I consider simplified and clownish within the historical world of Diablo.

I highly respected Blizzard until they pulled this nonsense... putting a WOW guy in charge of D3 was a mistake... they literally ripped the core right out of the Diablo series.

Do I think it'll be a good game compared to others of the genre? Yes.
Do I think it'll be a good game period? Yes.
Do I think it's a proper successor to D1 and D2? No.
Should the game be called something else instead of Diablo and would I think it was a good game on its own without the Diablo tag? Yes.

I don't think POE can compete with D3, no matter of what conditions, but that doesn't mean the game will fail IMO.
First because its a f2p game and many people will try it, and most likely like it, becoming long road players. The second reason is that MANY people are unhappy with D3 because all the systems reworks (aka dumbing down) and especially the real money auction house. If wasn't for that I wouldn't even consider playing POE xD and I'm sure there are thousand of players in the same situation as mine.

IMO D3 will be a success after its release (like all Blizzard's game) but I bet that after 1-2 years the auction house will destroy the game because of farmers and other things. Not to mention the possibility of bots aggravating the problem.

For those that don't believe D3 will have hacks I just want to remember a fact. Some players managed to create and use mapack one week after SC2' release and considering people can make profit from the RMAH the number of people tempted to hack will grow a lot.

You don't think the d3 world looks dark enough? I think its doing pretty well. Arenanet took a lot of d2 creators when they formed the company, and now they're making SUPER cartoon games such as guild wars 2.

I see more happy people about the new AH system then mad. All of my RL friends love it, you have to go online to see people compalain about it. If you played d2 atm you would realize its ruin by sites such as d2legit and systems such as JSP. Blizzard is taking back the game, and doing something I can say other games will do in the feature.

All doubts will vanquish come septemeber involving d3.

As I stated being PoE looks pretty good, but I feel like it doesn't have polish. This is fine, games can still be insanely fun to play, look at d2. We all want our character to look insanely strong at higher lvl, and from gear being displayed so far - I just haven't seen that yet. Microtransaction are suppose to fix this, but by then D3 and T2 will be out and as the OP argues- PoE is running out of time. Sadly thats the truth.

Great looking game, hope the pvp aspect takes off - I believe PVP is what could keep PoE alive and thriving since d3 and t2 aren't gearing towards this.
I feel there's room for both, and I don't feel that they step on each other except in the fact they are both ARPGs..

I don't like the graphical style of D3 more than that of POE or D2. I also don't like the modularized inventory system. I also don't like the health/mana orb system. I also don't like their take on pvp, nor a half dozen other problems that crept up in some of the interviews their lead has done.

I'm not saying the d2 guys would have made a better game... for all I know they'd have brought us torchlight as diablo, which would be no better.

I'm just saying that the core aspects of what made me enjoy the diablo universe are effectively gone. I feel they should have kept those core aspects of the diablo game genre and built from there... instead they just created a new game entirely, with heavy influence from their simplification strategy of WOW.. which is essentially a money grab, with the fallout being that core diablo got shelved.

Me too. It won't be able to compete with Goliath, but it can be a David in it's own right.
Don't mind me, just posting in hopes of a key.
For those of you who think the Diablo 3 world/art is fine, here is the lead artist on the project... /sigh

His work has never been to the degree of Diablo 1/2, his games always had a ton of color and were bright.

Diablo 1 and 2 weren't just artistic styles, they were a reflection of the artists who designed them. You can't just "copy" something like that, and Blizzard knew it. That's why they went ahead and smoothed the game out and made it easy and fun-loving instead of dark and grimy. The atmosphere of Diablo 3 sucks, and MOST of the hardcore D1/2 fans agree and have voiced their concern, !BUT! the new art style will SELL THE GAME, and that is what they want.

Furthermore, the lead designer on D3 is Jay Wilson, who worked on Dawn of War before coming to Blizzard. If you are like me and think "hey, D3 art style is similar to some older games I have played", well you are right, they pretty much took Dawn of War and copied the palette and feel of the game.

Blah
Personally I will buy all three, and will continue to play the most fun out of the 3.
