I think PoE is running out of time. Here's why:

I THINK PoE has a very short time to capitalize on this dead air pre-D3, post Torchlight/whatever other decent to poor crawlers have come out in the past few years. The longer they take to release the actual game, or, hell, even open up the beta, the less probable it is people will stick around to play it. If they don't latch people in now, I suspect they'll lose interest quickly as the D3 beta opens up. (Apparently some folks are tweeting about getting D3 invites already, although they are probably members of the media etc.)

Anyone else agree or disagree with this? Chime in, I'm curious to see what you all think.

Hard to say, i think they have a pretty good game here that will be able to "stand on it its own" even when D3 comes out.

As far as i can say this game seams to aim for a more "dark and gloomy" approach and also a bit more "complicated and tactical". Because of this i think they aim for another "niche" of the market then for example torchlight and D3.

Either way atm there isn't "much" they can do, even if they let all in the game is not complete :)

Time has already run out. Starting next week thousands of D3 beta keys will be released. The popularity of POE is dooooomed!!!

I hope I get a D3 key, gotta hold it down for the Mac users.

it is a fact that alot of poeple dont know
about poe right now. diablo fans will always return but if you tell some random diablo fans to choose betwin d3 or poe what will be their answer ? you can't play 2 game at the time, not these genre at least ....

think about it.

I like most people will play both games but more D3 and some PoE on the side.

If I get a beta key for PoE before D3 beta key at least I will be able to try the game and give it a chance but other then that anything will point to D3. This game will survive because it is free.

Path of Exile is special. It doesn't need to struggle with Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2.

if this game had been release 1-2 years ago with no competition in the genre it would had gotten a very strong comunity iam sure but a release within the same timeframe as diablo 3 it doesnt look good or at least this game wont reach the potential it could had been with no competition.

If path of exile torchlight 2 and diablo3 are all released on the same day I think torchlight 2 will be the one hurting the most

diablo3 would probably come out on top at first but I think it'll quickly lose players

path of exile isn't perfect by any means but the devs actually care about the player base and that alone will get them popularity plus being a high quality indie game studio is bound to get them a lot of attention


3-5 years from now I think path of exile will be on top of the action rpg genre
