I think PoE is running out of time. Here's why:
" They are often referred to as "Chinese Farmers" and they exist in all popular games. Just look at what they did to Ragnarok and look at what they are currently doing to Dragons Nest. It seems to me like you really don't play F2P games much. If you did, you wouldn't of made such an "unenlightened" comment. |

Botters only do their work when there's IRL cash to be had.
Also, they can only do their thing in games like Ragnarok Online because those games are straightforward to bot. Asian grinders usually are. But since this won't be an asian grinder (at least that's what we've been telling them not to make it in the beta feedback forum), and it's *extremely* doubtful that there's going to be much of an aftermarket for PoE items (we came here to get AWAY from RMT, remember?), there's extremely little incentive for them to make the kind of ultra-sophisticated bot program that would be needed for this game. Fast, dangerous monsters with special attacks and the constant threat of death aren't really something that can be botted through without MAJOR bot AI or extreme, absolutely ridiculous, over-leveling. In which case they won't be getting the best gear to sell anyway. NotSorry: Bot d3 for cash, play POE all day CaptainBurns: The game is just a means by which to kill things. The botting argument... it stands to reason that a game with a larger population will have more potential buyers, and thus more reason for botting.
PoE...well, maybe I've been out of the loop for a bit but I never used to see anything besides WoW accounts being listed on craigslist ebay and such, I never looked too hard though. I think D3 has done what they can to cut down on botting as much as possible, while PoE, for better or worse (and that's a heated topic!), has not. |

" Hey SLICER, thanks for the pic attached. So how was your bowling score? and did Enhanced Breastplate of POE Saturation help any? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/gaybowler.jpg Last edited by Unas#3899 on Aug 26, 2011, 2:59:50 PM

" You don't understand. Unless your bot is very, very smart or its character is very, very overpowered, you can't bot this kind of game. In games like Ragnarok Online and WoW, where a bot can just pick on a non-aggressive monster and auto-attack until it's dead, it works- but that kind of thing doesn't work in an environment where monsters come in swarms and all of them can kill you. How's a bot going to know when the monsters are going to overwhelm it in five seconds? How's a bot going to use AoE skills properly? Bots can't kite. Bots can't react like humans. Maybe an overleveled Marauder might be able to bot for scrolls and shitty gear, but beyond that.. no. And, again- who's going to buy PoE gear? I'm pretty sure everyone willing to pay to win is going to that other game. NotSorry: Bot d3 for cash, play POE all day CaptainBurns: The game is just a means by which to kill things. " Sigged. And I've seen a lot of bots. It's just scripting, if-then stuff. Sure, you can pile a lot of scripting together, and a bot may be able to repeatedly do the same area without trouble, but to further the WoW example, you're not going to be able to bot high-level raids. All the bots I've ever heard of are for gold. And there is no gold in PoE. NotSorry: Bot d3 for cash, play POE all day

It would seem D2 has proven just how possible it is to bot a game like this.
Area of Effect spells, pets, and teleportation are what made it possible in D2. Throw any of that into PoE and you open up possibilities for the same in PoE. The only thing PoE has going for it in this particular aspect is that it might not have as much of a demand for it as something that will generate more revenue... which is, in this case, D3.
