Nope
What they need is just a board like the public group board where people can list a stash tab of items and you can contact them to make a deal. Just change Group name = Storefront title Group members = 1 stash tab of inventory. I think the fact that you would still have to speak to and work out a deal with the seller keeps this from becoming too much like an auction house. |

People seem to hate the words "Auction House" little do they realize, the new system is going to be very similar anyway. A way to trade via the browser that doesn't involve meeting up, now what does that remind me of?

Current trade system sucks. It's split into trade chat, where 99% is trash that should be vendored, then abusing of public parties, the official forum, and external sites like poeexplorer.
There should be some kind of marketplace, being able to setup shops, and somehow be able to search them. AH did not kill D3, it was the RMAH combined with excessive botting and duping. And not being able to restart leagues. |

I think a "marketplace" of sorts would be a good solution. Let it be another waypoint. It's an area where a character can set up shop and post a maximum of 20 items or so. The interface could mirror that of the current dialog with NPC shops. The character would zone to the marketplace, find a suitable spot and then type /shop to open the interface. You could set the prices of specific items or even leave an item with something like "best offer". Once the shop is open there is either a chat inside the shop like I'm sure many have seen in Maplestory haha or an in game mail system can be implemented. This allows for a central and easy trading platform, but forces player interaction. There will be no auction house effect and trading is still a task rather than an automation. One of the best examples of this system is from a game called Lineage. The system works really well.

As a new player of POE, I have problem deciding the value of an item. I think an AH-like system would be helpful for new players as me to understand items better.

I've got nothing against an auction house in principle, but it could be quite difficult to accomplish with multiple currencies.
When setting up the auction, the seller would probably have to nominate a primary currency that the bids should be measured in (e.g. Chaos Orbs), and then say which currencies they would also accept and at what exchange rate (e.g. they will take alchs at a value of 0.45 chaos). Then a bid of say 3 chaos, 5 alchs will show up in the auction as '5.25 Chaos Orbs', which will be beaten by a bid of 4 chaos, 3 alchs which is '5.35 Chaos Orbs'. A more sophisticated system would default to putting in the 'market exchange rate' (calculated based on recent currency trading) for a particular currency swap, which you as a seller could then adjust. |

I'd like a faster and more efficient marketplace. Unlike other people on the forums I have a job. Can't sit around chat all day, and have text scrolling a quarter of my screen. I'd like to turn it off and enjoy the game. Dislike having to spam 8 different trade channels if I want to barter something. Most people are using poe.xyz.is anyway. Cause it's efficient.

" it's not neccessarily better for the game cause it makes trading even more superior to crafting or finding the gear yourself. i could imagine a trading system where people offer gear in special tabs (as announced) and others can bid currency or gear in exchange (which is blocked until the offer is over). the guy who offers can (or must) choose an offer in the given time frame. devs can implement any trading system they want, it just has to be a little more effective than agreeing on a deal on a forum and and trade by throwing items on the ground as we did in closed beta. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" Whilst I'm not opposed to an AH, as long as any form of real money is kept out of it, this does sound interesting. I do wonder, how many of the shops have players that are actually actively online? I could easily imagine the majority setting up shop, determining prices and then just going AFK while other people browse and buy ( although the sheer act of browsing an actual shop would still be very interesting ). Hell, I wouldn't be too surprised if one of the games you mentioned even provided this as an offline functionality. My vision for a better PoE: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/863780
